If you want to transfer from Vinyl to CD, you have to have a sound card with
an analog or digital input. If it's an analog input, you'll need a line
level amp to step up the signal from the Turntable to line level, which you
can then input into your computer, save as a WAV/AIFF file and burn to a
disc. If you've got only a digital input (like the Zefiro Accoustics ZA-2
audio card), you'll need to use a line level amp and an external Analog to
Digital converter, (like the Midiman Flying Cow/Calf, Tango 24, or of course
a DAT machine). Some argue that external AD/DA converters are less
susceptible to noise than the onboard AD electronics found on audio cards
(although as long as you get something better than a SoundBlaster, you
should be fine - my pick is Digital Audio Labs Card Deluxe, $450 or so).
And as was discussed earlier, Minidisc players don't have digital out's, so
you're stuck with an analog signal if you want to burn from minidisc.
