Would Marilyn Monroe have become the icon that she is if she had been
ugly? Or even just average?
It's simple really...
The suits at the record companies ( and the managment offices, and the
artist production houses, etc. ) know damn well that a pretty face will sell
a zillion more records than an ugly one no matter how talented mr. or mrs.
homely might be. Sad but true... The regular people you speak of are in the
buisness, and most likely on the records of the beautiful people in the
videos ( since not many people can play everything ). I do a fair amount of
session work myself here in Nashville and, let me tell you, most of my
musician friends are never going to be " star material ". They can, however,
work the drums, guitar, bass, keys, and yes even the turntable like theres no
tommorrow.
Keep in mind though, that the music buisness has always been that way
( at least since the advent of television ) and it always will be. How else
can you explain Milli freakin' Vanilli?
On the other hand, there's no law that says that the physically
blessed don't suffer just as much as the ugly. And I think that it's this
suffering, whatever form it may take, that expands the soul and gives us all
something important to say.
Besides, I like looking at Amel... : )
Peace, Terry
