Keyser & Shuriken - newsletter #14: Operation Danube
(Brought to you weekly with the kind support of Jah, the almighty and the evil Gorilla.)
Newsflash 22.03.2000
Dear friends,
Last week was full with positive vibes. We (Keyser and friends) travelled to Vienna in the weekend and met some nice people: Hannes and Flow, who run a little label called Twentysomething Tunes (http://www.twentysomething.at/e_start.html) and also Tom Wieland from Les Gammas, the new project on the German Compost label. We changed ideas and we have many plans in the pipeline. We will keep you informed about our joint projects. Hannes & Flow also showed us some of their still unreleased tracks. Look out, they will have some very fine releases in the near future.
If that's not enough, we also went to Meierei to see Peter Kruder, Claas Brieler from Jazzanova and Tom Wieland djing live. I think I don't have to explain what and how they played...
We came back still in the morning to Budapest, so I (Keyser) could join to Shuriken to play the freshest stuff we got. In the last week we got some fine promo copies from Grand Central Records (Manchester), Spinning Wheel Records (Pfarrkirchen, Germany) and Twentysomething Tunes (thank you!) and finally a full copy of remix CD of the Hungarian alternative rock band Kispal es a Borz. (Our radio station just started to stream in mp3 on the internet, and they had some difficulties, so you can't listen to this week's show. We are sorry for that and hope next week everything will work well.)
This week's reading is some words of experience from a street-wise business man/musician who has just left us:
"But you still have to keep your eye on the record companies. It's very important, whether the artist be black or white to own as much of themselves as possible. The music business has always been one-sided, where the producer and the writer have never had a stake in the publishing rights and production points that make the big money in the long run. I'm happy to see young people get wise to that."
CURTIS MAYFIELD Spotted in Voice of Montreal, March 1996 (Volume 3 Number 5, p.9). Curtis Mayfield died on December 26, 1999. R.I.P.
May the funk be with all of you, :)
