I arrived at Borders Book Store around 6:00pm. I
could see my brothas and sistas hurrying into the
bookstore. I parked. Got out of the ride. I wanted
to run into the store but was too embarassed to do it.
I finally got inside wondering where that Princess
would be performing. "It's upstairs" said a store
clerk. I got upstairs. I could see the setup.
Drums, Rhodes, Korg keyboard, Bass, and also an
Acoustic Guitar. I knew we were in for a treat. Then
I looked to the rear of the cd section and saw the
huge soundboard. I knew then that this would be a
performance I would never forget. I stood there along
with 15 others just happy inside that I made it and
was one of the first ones there. Then a store clerk
got on the mic and explained that Amel will sign
copies of her cds after the performance. She also
mentioned that Amel would not leave until everyone who
wants to meet her gets a chance. The 15 grew to 50
then to 100. Then it doubled and possibly tripled.
Now it's 7:10pm. The band warms up, then the
announcement came. She walked out and I could see
everyone freeze at the sight of her beauty. She was so
Angelic. Amel came on opening with "Sweet Misery."
She sounded so good. She just mezmerized the crowd.
Everyone was in awe. Cameras flashing, people smiling
and some even singing along. I was actually just 20
feet away from her. I could feel her vibe. We all
felt her vibe. She was touched by the turnout.
Actually I thought she was going to cry. We all knew
it was genuine and from the heart. She talked to the
crowd a little more. Then she did the title track,
"Infinite Possibilities." Her voice was so sweet, so
mellow, so accurate. Then she explained the history
behind "Down." She loves jazz and wanted to do a
tribute to those jazz artists of old. She also
mentioned she liked "jungle". It was suggested that
she fuse the two and create her own special tribute
that would be distincly hers. She performed "Down."
She gave us a version we may never hear again but will
never forget. I felt like I was in a jazz club in NY ,
eventhough I was surrounded by fictional novels and
self-help books. I must say the band was on point.
They are a very talented quartet. Amel closed with
Get Up. She devoted the song to the "working class"
as myself. I really enjoyed her performance.
Unfortunately, I did not get to personally thank her
because the line to see her had already formed and I
    was about 150 back....

    Thanks List,

    Boone
