We've come a long way since the days when up to two years separated the
releases of electronic and acid jazz albums first in Europe and England and
then finally in the U.S. (cases in point - Leftfield - Leftism, Fatboy Slim
- Better Living Through Chemistry) . Now as more distributors court the
electronic scene the divide has been shrunk to a week in many cases or
sometimes the releases are simultaneous.
There still are exceptions... such as : Andrea Parker (first Japan, then
U.K., then U.S.), Metamatics - Neo Ouija (first on Clear/PVine (Japan over
a year ago, then finally here on Hydrogen Dukebox). The only frustrating
thing is to guess that an album will wait a year to be released here in the
States, plunk down the 22-30 dollars for the import, and then magically
weeks later you see it in the cutout bin as a domestic release... THAT's
painful. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this happen... although if
it's going to take a year to make it here domestically, I'm many times too
impatient to wait.
