Sounds like she doesn't have much luck in that department.
I saw her at the Clapham Grand a couple of years ago on her own gig night.
The Grand at that time was apparently having a lot of licensing problems and
the local residents had complained about noise. The band finished their set
about 11 o'clock and were cheered back on for an encore but the management
cut the power to their instruments to stop them playing. The drummer and
percussionist carried on and you could see Meshell singing but obviously
couldn't hear her. The crowd were cheering away but eventually Meshell got
pissed off and stormed off stage.
The crowd should have ripped the place apart but being English they departed
in a fairly orderly manner.

Same thing happened at the North Sea Jazz edition of 97 I believe.
Originally she was scheduled as third act of a series of six, but on the
day itself she was rescheduled to the 5th time slot. As you can imagine,
every preceding act overran it's time limit and the organization decided it
might be a wise idea to win back some time at Me'shell's set. At the time
she would have normally ended her set (she played 45 minutes of the
original 90 minutes) someone whispered her something in her ear and the
reaction was the same as at River Stages. She thanked the audience and then
cursed the organization and vowed never to come back again.
Imagine my surprise when she showed up at the preliminary list of acts for
North Sea Jazz 2000 ...

I am the maddest motherf**ker on earth...
Meshell was scheduled to play River Stages ( an annual weekend long orgy
of bands held here in Nashville ) this past weekend. She was to go on
after
Travis, who ended up being an hour and a half late going on, essentially
playing in her time slot. After they were finished with their set it was
another fourty five minutes until Meshell took the stage, but I didn't
care,
I was going to get to see Meshell do her thing and I was excited. ( she was
the only reason I bought the freakin' ticket... ) Three songs into her
set,
one of the stage hands comes out and whispers something into her ear that
pisses her off so bad that she takes her bass, throws it down on the
ground,
and walks off stage with the rest of the band in tow. A split second later
some local radio yokel introduces Gov't Mule on the second stage and they
launch into their set. The only explaination that I can come up with is
that
they must have cut her off in the interest of time. The whole deal had to
be
over with at a certain time and there were still three more bands to go
after
Gov't Mule. I was so pissed off that I left. She was the only soul / r&b
artist amongst the onslought of three chord rock that dominated the
weekend,
and she gets clipped short because a bunch of scottish cats can't show up
on
time? Please...
