Last night i went to James Brown's B-day bash concert. It was cool. Tower
of Power opened and did many songs i don't know of course but they did a few
classic hits like "What i hip" and "You're still a young man." Awesome
horn section and saxophonist. highly recomended in concert, just for the
horns. Then James Brown took the stage with about a 15 piece band, 4 back
singers and two dancers. I was disappointed he did not do my favorite song
Soul Power, but all in all a great show. Even one of the dancers sang a
song and she had an amazing voice. During the show JB cracked a few jokes,
told a few stories and of did a few dance moves. Chack him out if you can.
I have to say this time was slightly more enjoyable than the living in
America tour, simply because i actually knew Jb's music this time around (i
was only 9 or 10 the first time around)

I know I've probably asked this

imo some of the best James Brown stuff:
Payback Lp
Damn right Im somebody (Fred wesley and the jb's)
Lyn Collins - Think (about it) [classic break!]
Maceo - Us
Pass the Peas
Black Ceaser Lp
Slaugher Big Rip Off LP
etc, etc...
Check anything on People Records (all easy to find as reissues)
but it all gets a bit samey i think... Early 70's is his most
interesting period for me... His "the one" theory on ryhthm is a
good one too - think of any classic riff and he always has the first
note on the beat (hat, bass and beat together) and the riff gets
more syncopated thru the bar and comes back to the first beat
again for the next bar... the man knew his shit!
peace
jason
