One cd I beat the CDDB on is the Naked Music "Midnight Snack Vol. 1"
compilation...which, since I've had it for over a month now, I suppose I
should post some sort of review of. All I can really say is smooth,
beautiful, well-put-together. (time to stretch my vocab, eh?) It's
impossible to listen to without feeling more relaxed and comfy in your
little world. Here's the track listing w/ comments:
1.Atjazz - Everything <-- vocal sample that sounds just like Aretha F.
2.Extended Spirit - Propulsion
3.Robin Jones - Royal Conga (Jimpster's
Haribo Starmix) <-- the title says it all
4.Aim - Cold Water Music <-- haunting
5.Pimprekker - Let It Go <-- smooth vocal track with great horn part
6.Dave Warrin - Central Living <--nice urban sound
7.To-ka Project - Losin' You
8.Attaboy - Buck Fast
9.Petalpusher - Breakin It Down <--sex on a platter here, prob. my favorite
10.Moss - Retread Lightly <--reworking of the bernard moss track on the pork
Stywars compilation. This one has an added vocal part. Not sure which one I
like better, but certainly a classic
11.Jonathan Maron - Natural High <--very sexy, kindov cheeky, almost
d'angelo-esque vocal track
12.The Rurals - I've Traveled the World <--smooth and dreamy as always
13.Lovetronic - Always (Original) <--verging on the more serious/cheesy side
with lyrics like "true love never fades" but beautiful all the same
I know that Midnight Snack is a winner because I never skip a single track.
Go find this one!!
The Atjazz and Aim tracks actually inspired me to seek out more of the same
so I picked up Atjazz's "That Something" and AIM's "Cold Water Music". AIM
was more on the hip-hop side than I usually dig. It's not a standout IMHO,
but enjoyable. I'd suggest picking up Midnight Snack instead because "Cold
Water Music" is the best track off of the album.
As for the Atjazz album, it has quite a few housey moments. Joystick is my
fav - a more tech-y, vocoded + synthy number - no jazz there. The more
downtempo numbers carry more traditional piano/sax melodies. That Sound
comes with my highest recommendation - it has nary a boring moment. =]
