Hi all,
I do not know if this has been mentioned before, but
rare groove was named after Norman Jay's UK radio show
from around 1982.
Rare groove is an example of British music
journalists inventing a 'new' genre.
This is exactly the same as what happened with Acid
Jazz, the instigator being Gilles Peterson.
Acid Jazz took this one step further in the sense that
people started to make music to fill the genre.
Other musical genres invented by British music
journalists: Northern Soul, Acid Jazz, Acid House,
Techno, Balearic, Speed Garage, Jazz-Funk.
For more info on these genres, check
