Someone mentioned mission impossible...is there a good
soundtrack for that? i haven't paid attention.
anyway, a couple years ago goldie did a remix of the
mission impossible theme that was really really nice
and is one of my favorite "odd-time-signature" dance
songs. he actually attacked dnb in 5/4. turned out
really subtle and good.
also looking back...went to the dub spot in ny
yesterday and got a nice fat stack of records which
today are giving me interminable joy. right now is
joe claussel full length "language". this is as far
house as I go, but jeez, this shit is sublime.
anyway. picked up another old seiji track on
reinforced. I really must have been stupid in 1997
because once again, a record i missed while whining
that there was nothing good, is blowing me away. this
one is "The Long Way"/"Innovation". Both are on some
drum-tumbleweed, l-dopa, intelligence-enhancing,
soul-steroid new and improved i-don't-know-what.
"innovation" is in 3/4...and that's only the beginning
of the fun. but "the long way" really shines. ever
heard jacob's optical stairway? mind-altering drum and
bass in a 5' diamter aluminum tube? it's like that.
i have to say again how much joy i'm getting looking
back musically from where i'm sitting now. it's
amazing how much the music of now is teaching me about
the music of then. my ear has been tuned differently,
much differently than even a year ago, and continually
shifts. the joe claussel track on now, gbedu
resurrection, is a bastard cousin of fela kuti-
roforofo fight from africa funk. yeah yeah, no big
news that the best music appreciates its roots, we all
know that or we wouldn't be here, but steeping in the
relaxation of a record day all to myself, i really
feel compelled to share the grin I'm getting. reminds
me why i do this, makes sense of the rat race for new
tunes.
wishing the same joy for all yall,
s
