I like Moby, but I don't think he's the cat's pajamas. I give him credit for
writing some catchy songs that don't bore the hell out of me and doing a
good show and being a decent, nice guy (back in his early Instinct days I
actually got to hang out a bit with him and he's was a real sweet guy--a
little anal about the vegan bit though). I use him simply as an example,
feel free to subsitute: Portishead, Chemical Bros, Fat Boy Slim, Roni Size,
etc. No one would say those people aren't talented, the only question is
whether their talent is in proportion to their success. Or put in another
how much is hype and how much is "beef"?

And hey I just thought of another factor for these guys--how good are their
videos. It doesn't fit into whether or not they're good musicians, but it
definitely has an effect on their status as entertainers or as SUCCESSFUL
    musicians. Moby gives good video.

I agree wholeheartedly. You get the total experience from the artist, this
is the type of artist whom after seeing their show you go out of your way
and tell your friends about. You get your money's and time's worth, and
most of all get a good feeling inside. Much better than going, "yeah, I saw
them the other night...they were okay..." (and how many times have any of
    you said that)?

I think Moby's alright. But personally I think you're giving him more
credit than he deserves...Don't you think all those blues singers he
sampled should get the credit for the "catchy lyrics"? :)
