Cool! Someone from my neck of the woods. When I joined the list back
at the start of the year I posted the same question myself but got no reply,
so the least I can do is nothing, but I'll go one step further and shell out
a few names.
My favourite record store is in fact a book store and is also a
video store (convenient for all your shopping needs) is Chapters (Middle
Abbey Street) which does new and second hand. It has a fairly large jazz and
soul section on the 2nd floor and some vinyl on the 3rd floor, but if its
electronic sounds your after check out Freebird records (1 Eden Quay, in the
basement of the Bustop shop) It also does new and second hand, but has a
more alternative feel to it. Other small stores worth checking out, Comet
records (5 Cope Street) Abbey Discs (Liffey Street) Record Collector
(Basement, 30 Wicklow Street) Trinity Records (Dame Lane, 1b, 14 Trinity
Street).
As for clubs, there are various pubs and such that have jazz or soul
nights, just check the newspapers. Electronic music, check out the
P.O.D./Red Box (Harcourt Street) The Kitchen (Temple bar) Again, check the
local papers and whats on guides.
Finally, check out the only jazz radio station in Dublin Jazz FM on
89.80 it covers the whole spectrum.
well, I'll leave it at that, if you come across any good soul clubs
give me an e-mail, as I'm pretty set in my ways and tend to stay in the same
places week in week out...stupid friends! Be more adventurous.
Willy
P.S. If you get the chance check out The Porter House (Temple Bar)
its a bit a tourist hot spot, but has the best beer in the city, all
naturally brewed, so good for the morning after.
