    Tempo of the Down!,

Brother Stimp's passing on some goodies for the ears and the soul. One of
my lastest Acquisitions that I realy must emphasis is:

2 Banks or 4 "City Watching" If you pass up on this one then you may be
missing out on one hellacious release!!!!! If you like:

    DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo's "Ki-oku"
    Ben Neill's "Triptycal"
    Nils Petter Molvaer's "Khmer"
    P'taah's "Condensed Light"

Then you may enjoy 2 banks of 4. If you like stand-up acoutic bass that
sounds like whales is heat then this is a must!!! The grooves are there
    too!!!

I have loads of flack for others outside the list about Sade's "Lover's
Rock". Personally it took me a couple of thorough listens to to really
appreciate this release. I was taken back by my sense that the band was way
in the back of the mix. The mood is sort of sedate and I have absolutely no
problem with that at all. I just sort of wanted Matthewman's
Sax/Guitar/Vibin' more in the forefront. An example of what I am talking
about is Matthewman's guitar work on "No Ordinary Love" off of -Love
Deluxe-, Yes!!!!!!! I really hope the time I took to absorb Sade's lastest
will wear off on everyone else who feels a little off.

I'll take the time to check out what Brother Stimp from the Great white
North recommended. The Zorn sounds just like what the Rabbi ordered, Hava
Naglila!!!!! along with the others. I'd also have to say Hell Yeah!!! to
Stimp for recommending releases outside the realm of Acid Jazz, Variety the
Spice of Life, along with Sela Ward Sprint Commercials!!!

    Semper Motociclismo,

    Pace'

What's shakin' people. I picked up some awesome new stuff last week that I
    thought I'd share with you.

-GOLDFRAPP- Felt Mountain. Man o' man, I can't say enough good things about
this record! Think Trip-Hop with orchestrations lush and complex enough to
do Ennio Morricone proud, with haunting female vocals that bring Miss
Shirley Bassey to mind, and there you have it. Believe me, it's really THAT
good. I've played this disc at least 5 times per day for a week straight,
and it just gets better. Definitely making my top ten list for 2000

-Sade- Lover's Rock: Good, but not great, got put to the side too quickly
for my taste, so I'm not sure if this one's gonna stand the test of time.
Considering that it's been 8 years since her last, I'm a little
    disappointed.

-Erykah Badu- Machine Gun: Straight up funk, pure and simple. Great
grooves, but again, I don't know why, but I ain't playin' this one to death,
like I thought I would (too busy listening to Goldfrapp!). I'm hoping that
this one will grow on me more and more with every listen, cos' I've been
waiting FOREVER for it to finally drop! I haven't seen many of u comment on
this one. What do y'all think?

-Jill Scott- Who Is Jill Scott?- Ho Hum. Call me in a few years when you
find your own musical identity. Ripping off Erykah Badu and, of all people
(and WHY???!!!) Macy Gray just don't cut it. Sounds nice, but it's about as
filling as a meal at a Chinese restaurant. I picked this up based on the
hype in this newsgroup. While I think that she shows promise, she ain't all
that, at least not for now. Hey, it's my $0.02, so I'm gonna spend it.

-John Zorn's Masada- Live in Seville- This record just knocks me on my ass!
I placed it last simply because it's the record that least pertains to
acid-jazz and what is usually discussed here, but it's a classic, pure and
    simple.

For those of you who haven't listened to Masada yet, WHAT ARE YOU
WAITING FOR?? Without a doubt, this ensemble will go down as one of
the greatest jazz groups of all time, right up there with Miles' two great
groups, Bird and Dizzy's great bands, John Coltrane's quintet and Ornette's
classic bands. Yeah, heavy company, I know, but they definitely belong in
    such company.

Classic Jazz meets the Avant-Garde meets traditional Jewish Music.
Only Zorn would try it, and that's cos' he's the only guy who can pull it
off. Magical stuff. In my opinion, you ain't alternative or hip if you
ain't diggin' Zorn and his warped musical world. He may be an asshole as a
human being, but he's a master composer and innovator. Check him out, your
lives will be better for it. You may wanna start off with the Morricone
tribute or the stuff he did with Naked City, as it's a little more in tune
with what's discussed here on the list (but not really, LOL).

    Over and out,

    Stimp
