I haven't read this entire thread yet, maybe these
have already been mentioned, but I would like to put
in a good word for Celia Vaz and Badmarsh&Shri.
Celia Vaz has been around for ages, and her album last
year, Ebb and Flow, is superb. a few classic-sounding
tracks, bossa-jazz-ish, but a lot of really lush,
gorgeous organic compositions with light electronic
washes that make it all the more exciting, kind of
like bjork circa "post". Even some really pleasing
blues influence.
Da Lata of course, no need to reiterate the
well-deserved praise they've been getting.
Badmarsh and Shri is on the dancy, Indian side of
things, with a goodly amount of kick-ass drum and bass
and breaks. highly recommended. State of Bengal has
some good stuff sometimes, although I often find
myself passing on singles, on the basis that they're
too breaky.
I see bill laswell in some subject lines...good
lookin' out!!
