Sorry you feel that way, Marie. It is certainly true that many folks on
this list, including myself, are doing a fair amount of self-promotion,
whether it be for radio shows or club gigs or record stores or whatever.
However, it all seems relevant and interesting to me. I agree with
everything Leslie and Denise have said in that regard. When posting my own
playlists, I at least try to include some useful information about my "album
of the week," or whatever special features I had on the show that particular
night, so that if you don't like to read lists, you can at least get a
better idea of what's going on in my musical world.

As far as "real" junk mail goes, that's just part of the dues you pay for
being on a public mailing list. It's practically impossible to screen it
all out. But on the other hand, it doesn't take me very long to hit the
DELETE key when I see one of those messages. ;-)

Here are some things that DO waste my time:

    1) People who post gig info, but don't put the location in the title, or at
least near the top of the message. Often I have to hunt through the whole
message to figure out if it's relevant to me or not!

    and

    2) People who post relevant information but are NOT subscribed to the list.
On a few occasions I have responded to these posts, only to be met with
silence. These people are clearly NOT interested in the quality of the
list, and I wish Erik would screen these individuals out, if that is
    possible.

    But enough complaining.

I'm am definitely LOVING the new 3-CD XEN CUTS compilation from Ninja Tune!
What an embarassment of riches. Even though I've heard many of the tracks
before, it all flows together so well, and is just so damn LONG, that it
creates its own musical universe while you're listening. The Saul Williams
track in particular blew me away, but that was only because I hadn't heard
it before. There's SO much other good stuff on these three CDs. And at a
rock bottom price, too. It oughta be a required purchase! :-)
