I've now had more mail about spam today than about music but I'm going to
add to it myself. I often get in and end up wading through my inbox,
deleting the vast majority. When it takes me half an hour to check my new
mail I will tend to get annoyed with the playlists and the band adverts. I'm
sure this would be magnified if I wasn't accessing from my work's leased
line connection.
However, I can generally spot the bands and playlists and delete them before
reading too much of them. It is generally the user posts and little nuggets
of information that take my time up because I can't stop myself reading to
the end. Besides, many of the playlists refer to archived shows that listees
can check out. Given the difficulty in getting quality music at my local
record shop, the knowledge that a particular tune can be heard on Keyser &
Shuriken's show is a major bonus.
I would also say that generally it is not particularly useful to know which
bar, for example, T-bird is playing at (no diss intended). But if my
intention to visit New York and LA next year should materialise then it
would be great to know that I can hear some quality music rather than
tourist trap trash.

P.S. Erik, do you know why some list mail comes through addressed to
acid-jazz@ucsd.edu and some to my personal mail address? I checked with one
of the senders before and they definitely sent to the aj list as they didn't
have me on their distribution list. Again no diss on you and respect in
abundance.
