There was a review posted of Sadé's new one a few
weeks back on the Underground NYC page. It doesn't
seem to be very spectacular.
I previously said that there was a Miguel Migs mix
of the lead off single. I was mistaken.
The mix was originally done by co-Naked Music guy
Jay Denes. The mix was loved by Sony, but Sadé hated
it (she can't stand house),
Bravo Sade!!!!!
so it was rejected.
It
will probably be bootlegged eventually and make the
rounds, just like Seal's "Latest Craze" (the Kerri
Chandler mix was rejected for the same reason).
Right now there are promos making the rounds of the
Ben Watt (from Everything But the Girl) mix, as well
as some lame cheese remixes (think 2/3 of EBTG's
last single...Hex Hector et al)
Jonathan
The Ben Watt remix just wasn't my cup of tea. Sort of amazes me why someone
would waste their remixing someone as flawless as Sade anyway. If you are
going to remix something or cover something wouldn't it make sense to make
it as good as the original or even better.
Case in point, folks who cover Hendrix, if it isn't complimentary to "The
Master" why bother. I have to give a big thumbs up to The Cure who covered
"Purple Haze" on a Hendrix tribute "Stone Free". When I saw the track
listing and it said The Cure covering "Purple Haze", I was like "what the
f*ck?, Over!!! But listening to their version was absolutlely awesome!!!!!
Getting back to Sade, I heard Les Nubians version of "Tabou" and to me it
was great!!! I always like it when people add a Jamaican Rasta Flava to
things. The aforementioned Ben Watt, Nah-ah!!! just did not do it. There
is something magically about Sade and her Band. I am looking forward to the
new album coming here Stateside 14 November 2000. Happy trails!!!
