Asked this question about a week ago, got a few
responses, did a little more digging. I'm headed there
tomorrow. Here's what I've come up with thus far...
RECORD STORES:
Yoshitoshi/Deep Dish/Yo Shop --- (lots of genres:
heavy in downtempo, dnb and house). 32nd and M Street
in Georgetown (near corner of M & Wisconsin, on the
hill side going away from the city, upstairs).
Flying Saucer --- on 18th street in Adams-Morgan.
Red --- club/record store?? on 18th street in
Adams-Morgan, corner of Connecticut Ave., owned by
ESL guys. Cutting-edge basement joint.
12-inch Dance in Dupont Circle.
Orpheus in Clarendon --- take Metro across the river
to Virginia. Great selection of jazz and R&B.
CLUBS/HAPPENINS
State of the Union, good hip hop
9:30 Club, shows, various genres
Eighteenth Street Lounge, thievery
Esoteric party: 2Tuff, Stellar & SirReal present
Esoteric, Saturday, Oct. 28 @ Edge NightClub. Drum and
Bass rooms featuring Trace, Total Science, MC Dub2,
Slant, Stress, Hail, Te-Ke.
Aromatic -- lounge party held Thursdays at Aroma (3417
Connecticut Ave., NW; 202-244-7995). Recommended by
Ben Adams. Ambient, lounge, dub night. Limited
seating. Eclectic crowd not typical in the mostly
white Cleveland Park area.
