Some frequently and most recently asked questions, from folks who get my
e-mails:
* Who are you?

* What do you do?
* Why are you e-mailing me?
* How is this helping me, right now?
* How did I get on your list?
*** How the F$%*@! do I get OFF the list!!!
Who are you?
My name is GMS. I am one member of the three man Hip Hop group known as
HYDRA, out of Brooklyn NY. You may have met me at a show or seen me
perform at an open mic event or compete in an MC battle. (attatched is a
photo).
What is HYDRA? What is Stormtroopers?
For a few years we've been performing at various spots around New York
and got friendly with a lot of club owners and others in the music
industry. While puruing musical careers as an MC, producer, songwriter,
music teacher and music journalist I have been putting together shows
having to do with Hip Hop and her close cousins Poetry and Spoken Word,
along with one of my partners from HYDRA, LR Blitzkrieg. The two of us
formed Stormtroopers Entertainment and have been putting on shows, as
best we could, and performing at some of them with HYDRA and crew
members in The Plague.
What do you do?
We also promote other Hip Hop events, like we promoted a couple of
Lyricist Lounges and some Hip Hop parties in the past year.
What parties/events are we doing right now?
Right now we are promoting the dopest Hip Hop party every Saturday night
at Limelight, called Main Ingredient, featuring the dopest DJs,
including Evil Dee, DJ Riz, Eclipse, Mr. Len, Lord Sear, Mighty Mi,
Bobbito, PF Cuttin', 5th Platoon, E Roc, Denmark, Goldfinger and Big
Rich Medina.
We are also about to throw a film screening and Hip Hop/Spoken Word
showcase, called Freestyle, Monday Nov 13th, at WETLANDS Preserve, NYC.
More on that later.
Why are you e-mailing me?
The purpose of these mailings is to inform friends, fans, club-goers,
industry heads and artists of every open mic event, showcase, party or
club that we are involved in, and offer REDUCED or COMPLIMENTARY
ADMISSION to these spots. Most people like finding out about what's
going on in Hip Hop in NYC, and some of them actually attend the events
and get in free or reduced admission at least.
For instance, we often do shows at places and they say you have a 30
person guestlist. We call our close peeps and try to invite 30 people,
but some people can't go, so then I extend it out to people on my e-mail
list. Like, "first 10 people who get back to me will be comped to the
"blah-blah-blah" show, on Tuesday." See? Often, we have guestlists to
exclusive parties and events that are entrance by rsvp only. You have
to be on the list or you don't get in!
How is this helping me right now?
We also have a reduced list for guys and a comp list (free) for women,
at our Saturday night thing at Limelight. So every week I ask who wants
to go and I get 30 to 100 responses and we try to hook up as many people
as we can. (reply with "guest list" in the subject box, and specify
which party you are rsvping for, and I'll hook you up).
Sometimes I know of an event, that I have nothing to do with planning or
promoting, but I think is very hot and I e-mail everyone about it, like
"Hip Hop/Poetry Open Mic at teh Nuyorican Poets Cafe, NYC, first week of
November."
How did I get on your list?
If you are recieving this, you are either on my personal mailing list,
or get this forwarded to you from a friend or a group list which you are
a member of (ie, ListBot, egroups, etc.).
If you are on my personal list, this is how you got on the list.
1) You signed a guestbook at a HYDRA show or one of our parties
2) You are a personal friend or aquaintance of mine.
3) You sent me an e-mail requesting that I send you info on upcoming
events.
4) Someone sent me info concerning a Hip Hop event and included your
address in their CC: list. I grabbed your name and added it to my list,
figuring you must be someone involved in Hip Hop or interested.
How the F*&$@! do I get OFF your list!!!
If you are NOT interested in my e-mails, for any reason, just reply to
my e-mails with "please remove" in the subject box. I have set up my
inbox to catch these and I delete you from my list right away. I have
no reason to want people not interested in this info on my list. I have
almost 10,000 people right now and most like getting my announcements or
updates. I'm a member of several egroups, some for MCing, some for
poetry, some for event listing. Those egroup moderators who don't feel
my posts speak to their members needs feel free to block my mails. I am
not trying to "spam" anybody and will gladly remove anyone who requests
it.
Hope that answers it for ya. Peace and blessings.
