DJ QOOL MARV SEPTEMBER SPECIALS
· Monday, September 11th: UK Fashion/Style/Music Magazine -- I-D -- comes
to Ludlow Bar on Monday September 11th to take photos for a feature on the
best underground (non-commercial music) parties in New York. Also, if you
follow UK magazines, Sleazenation Magazine will feature DJ Spinna, DJ E-Man,
and myself in an article about the beginnings and current soulful trends of
house music. Sometimes the Low Profile is better…address listed below.
· Friday, September 15th: BOATRIDE JAM -- Qool Marv and 5 other DJs from
London and Australia (Kevin McCray, Hudge, Stern Funk, Jenson, & Justine)
will be getting down with the get down while floating across the Hudson. Be
at Chelsea Pier 63 at the Frying Pan Deck behind the Equestrian Center to
board by 11:30…back on land by 4am. $20. Tickets can be bought from the two
hosts: Kindred Spirits at 718-387-1325 or All Souls Tattooing at
212-663-4028. Win a $200 tattoo session and dance yer booty off! Check

· Thursday, September 28th: SOUL SISTAH NIGHT at Opaline - With female
guest DJs and women's energy fueling the vibe, this "last Thursdays of the
month" party at Opaline is becoming one of the city's best. No bitches, no
hoes, no tricks, just black women and music that celebrates their style.
You'll hear lady voices in soul classics (Chaka Khan, Teena Marie, Joyce
Sims…), R&B (Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Sade…), Hip Hop (Lauryn Hill, Queen
Latifah, MC Lyte…), and Reggae (Sister Nancy, Tanya Stephens, Patra, Nadine
Sutherland…). Look out for the classic soul train performances projected
above the dance floor…ever seen Millie Jackson perform or Taste of Honey?
Check the video, check the style, check the vibe…address listed below.
· Friday, September 29th: HIGHLIFE at Baktun -- This weekly party of
"dubwise tripped out beats, roots and world grooves" is the place to be if
you've ever heard my chillout mixtapes. Baktun is dealing with Guliani-era
cabaret license madness so this is definitely a place to zone out and I'll
take you there. Hosted by Tomo, Fflood, and Kienyo and it is $5 for everyone
after midnight…drink specials and ladies free before midnight. This party is
every Friday so you don't need to wait until I get there on the 29th to check
it out. Think Portishead, Beck, DJ Shadow, Black Uhuru and other bugged
beats.

What secret is there in music which attracts all those who listen to it? It
is the rhythm which is created. It is the tone of that music which tunes the
soul, and raises it above the depression and despair of everyday life in this
world. If one knew what rhythm is needed for a particular individual in his
trouble and despair, what tone is needed, and to what tone that person's soul
should be raised, then one could heal a
person with music.
