    UK Garage/ 2-Step Record Reviews
    (from the http://hipjoint.iscool.net )

    UPDATED*UPDATED*UPDATED (9/23/2000)

    Architechs- Body Groove (white label)
This is a big tune!!!!! Originally getting big plays by EZ and Spoony,
back in April. Now I've got a copy of it in September. It is off da
hook!!!! The Architech's first made some noize with a bootleg of
Brandy's "The boy is mine", last year. Now with the vocal stylings of
Nana, this track will have them bumpin' & grindin'!!!!!

Corrupted Cru feat. JJ & MC Neat- Poison (Kronik)
` Oh yeah!!! Bel Biv Devoe´s early 90's new jack swing anthem covered
by dem crazy Corrupted Cru rude bwoy´s. JJ who sings with DJ Luck
sounds better than the original, but those drum machine patterns used in
the original sound a lil´ corny. But the added MC Neat keeps the tune
alive, plus the jazzy keys at the end give it some deep swing. This is a
favorite of mine, even though it´s almost a year old. The remixes were
released last summer, so look for them also.

DJ Luck & MC Neat feat. JJ- Master Blaster 2000 (Red Rose)

This was originally done by Stevie Wonder on his Hotter than July
record. It is transformed into a 2-Step masterpiece!!! Remixes by
Oracles are of the moodier variety. This is one of da funkiest tunes of
the Summer. Kartik's remix is jazzy with it's deep chords and swingin'
    drums. A rinsed out tune!!!!

DJ Luck & MC Neat feat. JJ- Ain't No Stoppin' Us (Red Rose limited
    promo)

This was just released properly on Sept. 25th, through Red Rose/
Millennium Distribution. This is a cover of the tune from Beat Street
(the 80's Breakdancing movie). It is so infectious with it's vocal hook,
and skankin' reggae vibe. This is one of these tunes that keep you
feelin' good about the whole UK Garage movement!!!! Big thanx to Red
Rose for hookin' me up with the limited edition red vinyl copy that
sells for 50 pounds in the UK.

    Wideboys- Westside (Point Blank)

This is a funky lil' gem with a vocal of "this is just a groove", but
where did they snatch it from??? This one of these tunes have just a
lil' bit of the R&B flava to make it right for the ladies. A sippin'
champagne tune. The flip has a nice 4 to the floor 98-style dub on it. A
    good one!!!

JJ Farris- Spiritual/ On my mind ( M.A. D. white label)

JJ Farris, I guess is da vocals behind Master Blaster 2000, now he
brings us a rinsed out tune called "Spiritual". It is soulful, funky,
and later very boombastic (like Shaggy!!!) :) A TUNE!!!! Then off to "On
my Mind", this is a nice and smooth one with deep chords, plucked
strings, and enuff funky bass. But then check it out
(boom-boom-boom-boom), it gets tuffer! The dubby bass is killa!!! And
the soulful female vocals are similar to a certain platinum R&B group.
This will be a tuff one to find, but it will soon pop up on
    www.juno.co.uk .

MJ Cole- Sincere LP (Talkin' Loud)

This record is finally in my possession after months of hunting it down.
What can I say , this LP is a monumental piece in UK Garage history. My
faves are from the slick and soulful vocal tune "Crazy Love" to the
ruffer tunes like "attitude", "Slum King", to the spaghetti western d& b
influenced sounds of "Bandalero Desperado". The cover of the Modulatons
rare groove classic "Rough Out Here", is at 120 bpm's, but still a funky
tune (albeit popular with Gilles Peterson and Patrick Forge). This LP is
one of the most important records in UK garage. "Sincere" is the jazzy
classic cut we all love, so pick this four record set of amazing
    tunes!!!!!!!

Locked On- Winter Music Conference Sampler 2000
    (Locked On)
Zed Bias starts it out with the killer "Neighborhood", a massive choon
burning up dance floors fom London to Phoenix. I love it's fusion of
hardcore dancehall and jazzy keyboard licks. There's enough girlie
vocals to keep the ladies happy, and hard bass for the guys. Suburban
Lick come strong with two bombers "Here comes the Lick" and "You're
Mine", both cuts represent the 2 Step Yin & Yang theory- the ruff wit da
smooth. Killa!!! Phuturistix get dark with "Blind Faith", atrack that
could've been made by Matrix or Optical (drum & bass headz). With it's
haunting intro, this tracks leads you into another world of intrigue anf
ruffness. Other highlights are Leee John's "Mind, Body, and Soul" (a big
cut on the UK Garage scene), Antonio's "Hyperfunk", Us Alliance's "Da
Grunge", and Ruff Cut- Bias ("Ruffcut" Lloyd and Zed Bias) "Down". All
massive tracks. Thanx to Andy Lewis for the sampler. Locked On is one of
    England's premiere 2- Step labels.
