It's really just perspective. Some people live in a closed society, by
either socioeconomic or psychological reasons. But go beyond your borders
and you'll see more than you've ever thought. I went to Germany a few years
ago and saw black Germans. I saw Chinese Germans.
Most people whi live day-to-day in their own country, in their own city,
regardless of your race or origin, are sort of blind to the rest of the
world. Again, you have to leave those confines to get the full perspective.
On a personal note, I was in the Philippines recently. My parents are from
the Philippines. However, I was born and raised in the USA. One might
assume since I'm the same color as everyone else there I'd blend in, right?
Wrong. I was sort of treated like a space alien there. For most people
there, the thought of a Filipino person actually born and raised in the USA
is an improbable concept to them. A lot of them didn't even think of me as
one of their own...Oh well, I just have to face up to the fact that no
matter where I go in this world, I'm always a minority...
