Having followed the discussion on race and colour and so on, I come
to think of a story a friend of mine told from his childhood.
His father was one of the major promoters for a local Jazzclub here
in the western parts of Sweden (for those of Swedish origin on this
list the small town is called Boras) and my friend Magnus being just
a spotty little (pale white) kid was allowed backstage.
So when Miles Davis played at the club (I think it was him, not 100%
sure - but it was one of the great trumpet players) Magnus got to
talk to the great legend and he told him that he too was playing the
trumpet and jazzmusic, Mr. Davis smiled and looked down at the little
boy saying:
- Son, to PLAY jazz - you gotta BE jazz ...
So, my point is that it's not a question of gender or where you're
from, it's a question about the love for the music and being true to
what you do ...
And maybe being a little older than a snotty kid ;-)
Stay frosty out there!
