I just don't agree with the bumb rap Modaji is getting around here. The LP
is pretty damn good IMO. I personally do like "Fuel for the Ire" a lot.
The only song I don't like yet is "Into Something" which may grow on me.
Very warm as Optica said, mad soulful, with uplifting, thoughtful vocals
about change, progression, and life in these days and times. I say Modaji's
lyrics fit the album well. I almost want to call this album R&B. Nice warm
feelgood album for soul lovers. If your expecting a dancefloor broken beat
hard hitting extravaganza this isn't your album. More for chilling out with
your girl or in a kick back jazzy set. I especially like the tempo of the
album, not too slow and not to fast. I'll be playing this a lot and giving
away a few copies to friends. If you like D'angelo, Jill Scott, Sylk 130,
The more soulful side of the West London sounds ect. this mature album is
probably for you. If you really dig the nu soul sounds, you won't go wrong
with this. Very recommended.
I also got my own copy of Julie Dexter's "The Plan"... some more quality
vocals laid down over exceptional IG Culture production. The three mixes
(Hip Hop mix, Julies Rub, and Bruk Step Mix) are all excellent.
Xploding Plastix - Doubletalk EP. Right along the lines of the latest
thread on jazz NOT being dead. This is some fresh shit here and I like the
song titles (Sports, Not Heavy Crime; Doubletalk gets through to you;
Funnybones & lazylegs; More powah to ya). Similar to DJ Food, and Amon
Tobin but with it's own sense of humor. Quality jazz flavors with
originality.
Beau.
