08.04.01 Week 14
689 peeps on the page.
We give love this week to our favourite sister in the solar
system Miss Tank Green. Those who know Tank know
that she is a Goddess sent down to Planet Earth to help
us Humanoids expand our own possibilities and
development. Those who know Tank are blessed to
have such a wonderful person in our universe. Those who
don't know should really check out www.tankgreen.com
Be warned though, Tank was also sent down to Earth for
a period of detention because of her outrageous humour
and wit up in the heavens. We be glad she such a naughty
goddess.
We give love also to the man known as MK Ultra or to
closer buddies as Nigel Samuel. A big brother to me
and a inspirational character to those who tread the
streets of Soho each and every Saturday afternoon.
We may have lost our favourite record shop of late
but this here foot soldier and I still trek the hallowed
streets of Berwick, Dean and Denman each search of
hidden treasures. Peace and love to my big black bro.
Respect is giving to Allan from Denmark too. A regular
visitor to 'Granny' on Thursday evenings. Well, we got
to check him out playing at the new place in town, and
what a tidy set too. Always nice when one DJ inspires
another. Found myself not wanting to watch Match of
the Day but instead play choons to people wearing
pink skirts and serving ridiculously expensive drinks.
What was all that about!
Yeah, Pecs does sound kinda nice for the Cuki's!
Better than the town I hang out in now! Five days on
the trot I set out in a tee shirt and came home with an
umbrella! Can someone please have a word with
the big man in da sky and sort this out. Tank, maybe
you can do this! Yeah Tibi, I need regular weather
updates from Hungary.
As always, 'Bemsha' still swinging on a Tuesday night at
the nottinghillartsclub. Thanks to the crew for a another
great night. Hope David enjoyed the Barbara Streisend,
Barry Gibb track! Nathan as usual sounding strong, band
playing as tight as a frogs arse.
Another good reason to get your self down to the nhac
is because there is one helluva cukibaba who needs
to be checked out. She's from New Zealand and she wears
the funkiest hats in London town. She's very sophisticated,
(plays backgammon) absolutely gorgeous, blond, tall, and
one fit body. There, been wanting to say that for years Sonia!
What a babe you are.
Shouts to Oli and the Stereo Deluxe crew in Nurnberg.
Look out for a new edition of 'Bassic Instinct' on the streets,
this time Volume number 3 with all out favourite Deluxe
moments on a splendid double pack. New stuff forthcoming
from the label too.
In fact, enough Germanic platters hitting the shops soon.
GAP, Spectrum Works, Spinning Wheel, Sonar Kollektiv
crews and Compost all coming with hot biscuits this
spring/summer.
Err, football! What football! Didn't know it was on mate!
Get the feeling I'm gonna take some stick this week!
#### #### This weeks chart #### ####
1. The Underwolves - Under your Sky (Compost/JCR) 2xLP
This time Compost won't let the boys down like the other lot
did! What did happen to Island Blue? It may be over two years
old but the fact that its release is immanent is a testimony to the
fact that good things happen to those who wait. We have to
thank Compost too for getting on the case of this long lost
beauty. A truly exceptional album that to many needs no
introduction. Timeless. I've gone all damp!
2. Modaji - S/T (Laws of Motion) 2xLP
21st century soul boy Dominic Jacobson finally delivers
his first long player! He's come along way since the days
of 'Starburst over Orion'. He's also matured into one of the
finest producers and songwriters around. Respect DHJ.
3. V/A - Compost 100 (Compost) 4xLP
4 plates of bonkeroney Bavarian beats! I'm in heaven!
To celebrate the 100th release of this outstanding label
Compost come through with a compilation of all our fav
acts past and present. Some amazing music on this
album and I personally can't wait for the next one hundred
releases from Haager Street. Hats off and respect to all
the crews.
4. Nathan Haines - Sound Travels (Chilli Funk) 2xLP
Again, so pleased to have all tracks on vinyl. Nathan's
album already destined for classic status. Time will travel
but this long player will live long in our spirits and record
boxes for sure. The first of many great albums we hope!
Look out for the live thing too.
5. Block 16 - Find an Oasis (Nuphonic) CD-R
Suckaz for the strings, hold on to your arm chairs!
This gonna Bunson burn ya! Jhelisa returns with
the voice over but the orchestration and the bossa
groove killing us ever so slowly. Fug quiet things
down with a solid remix too.
6. Figarro - Run Around (Clairaudience) 12"
Peven Everett gracing our turntables yet again. This
time under the Figarro guise. Once again beautiful
instrumentation, keys, pianos, vibes, drums, percussion,
this track has it all. House music at it's very best.
7. Hirsohi Fujiwara & Shinichi Osawa - Lost Child (Instr)(Sony Japan) 12"
Modern day arrangements tend to be overlooked
in need of finding more welly for the dance floor! Well
this here arrangement, production and song presses
the right buttons every time As per usual we bypass
the vocal and get straight to the instrumental from the
guys who work the 'Mondo Grosso' & 'Bird' sound.
8. India.Arie - Acoustic Soul (Motown) CD & 12"s
Kedar Massenburg and Co deliver another quality soulful
superstar. India's vocals and songwriting taking it to the
next level. Put the CD on repeat play!
9. V/A - The Brazil EP (V Recordings) 2x12"
Yippeeeee! Patife, Marky, Max De Castro and Fernada P
finally find there way on vinyl into my box! Its been a long
time getting there! Even the CD-R was wearing out! This
the type of Drum n Bass that's got to bring the sun out!
10. Enola 5 - Moonlighting (Cooker) CD-R
Oh my god! Who is this crew! Three tracks
wearing out the soles of my shoes! 'Moonlighting'
drops the biggest bomb though. Turn right at the
lights and head up Kruder and Truby street.
11.Chris Bowden - Beautiful Nasty (4 Hero remix)(Ninja Tune) 12"
This mans axe takes you to places unknown and unseen.
Reminding me of Ornettes sound and sense. 4 Hero do
the remix proud too. It's a tough choice between the
original and the remix, both touching the spinal column,
both electrifying the nervous system.
12. Robert Nacken - Majomin (Spectrum Works) CD-R
This is where music begins and ends for me! Songs,
melodies, spirituality and so much more. Epic acoustic
music from the label that isn't afraid to differ. This the
guy too that wrote Karma's 'High Priestess'.
13. Hanna feat Gere - Laughing (Apollo) 12"
So pleased to have this on any format, Big thanks to
David for putting this my way. One of those beautiful
melodic drum n bass tunes that gives me da bumps.
Hanna being the vocalist. Singing sweet and
changing directions in this moody but mellow roller.
Forge been teasing me with this for weeks, now I
got my own.
14. V/A - Transatlantic Audio Vol 2 (Dynamite Joint) CD-R
Dynamite Joint coming through yet again with
another superb comp, this time all exclusive tracks
compiled by those Atlantic boys Karl Injex and
Tyler Askew. Viper Squad, Big Bang, Hajime
Yoshizawa, Alex from Toyko just a few adding
to the ride.
15. Psyco on da Bus - V/T (Comet) 2xLP
We supported this back last year on CD-R format but
we get the vinyl and give it another bolt. Tony Allen,
Doctor L, Jeff Kellner, Jean-Phi Dary and Cesar Anot
on a bus, on a tour, on a Afro Funk mission! This is
exactly what the title says 'Psyco'! We're on da bus!
16. V/T - Folky (Spectrum Works) CD-R
Acoustic music in digital times! Awesome collection
of new bizniz from suspects such as Scuba, Zero 7,
Les Gammas, Victor Davis. We also digging such
artists as Otto Lamani and Lief too. Pull up a comfy
chair and leave your dancing shoes in the corner!
17. Afronaught - Transcend Me (Apollo) 12"
Soon come! Soon come! Hold on boys and girls.
Whites about so the finished article only days
away! Get ready also for the O-Dawg album to
compliment this excellent twelve.
18. Art Konik - Remixes (Comet) 12"
Comet records on Fire! Again, Manu and friends
coming through with da bulletsMingpark and Afro
Monkey get the remix treatment from Meitz (Sonar
Kollektiv) and Abstract Soul (Kif/Paris). These mixes
hugging the dancefloor but keeping the Konik
quirkyness intact. Look out for an album later from Art.
19. Swell Session - I see through you (Hollow) CD-R
We think the follow up to the amazing and still
played out first twelve from Sweden's Hollow
recordings. Top teenager Ms Yukimi Nagano
adding those composed vocals once again.
A worthy follow up.
20. Le Mans - Mi Nouela Autobiografica (Kabuki remix)(Spectrum Works) CD-R
Well, after the comfy chair bizniz, time now to get
your dancing socks back on. It may be taken from
the excellent 'Folky' acoustic compilation on Spectrum
Works but Kabuki show no respect in lighting the fuse
with this cross breed fusion killa. A bomb!
21. Osunlade - Tree of Life (Versatile) 12"
Taken from the excellent and forthcoming 'Family' comp
due out on the ever consistent Versatile label outta Paris.
Osunlade from the Yuroba stable bringing spiritual house
music back to life. Check out his other recent stuff on the
Soul jazz label and of course the Yuroba label out of NYC.
22. The Lithium Project - Fundo Passo (Hydrogen Dukebox) CD-R
Walking the streets of Detroit in the year 2134 with this one.
Futuristic yet soulful groove taking from a diverse and neat
forthcomer. MK Ultra giving me a top tip off.
23. Difusion - Illusive Angel (Solaria) 12"
Venom and Uncle get it done with this deep and vibrating
sound off! Somewhere between Drum n Bass and West
London broken beats! A bunch of Viper/Venom stuff
sounding off very soon! Vinyl sounding super phaaaat!
24. Shur-i-ken - Advance (Freerange) CD-R
Wow! What a debut album for Mr Odell's Freerange label.
Look out to for Landslide and Swell Session remixes
forthcoming too. Shur-i-ken aka Tim something or other
coming through with mo twists and turns than a super
market trolley with a wonky wheel.
25. Turbulent - San Francisco Nights (Pagan) 12"
Tucked away on the flip side of this twelve is
a little gem. Deep house groover. This needs
to be checked boys, floating, atmospheric and
extremely soothing.
26. KJM feat Bebel Gilberto - The view from her room (?) CD-R
Kyoto Jazz Massive team up with last years
hottest property Bebel Gilberto for a classic
Working Week track. Usual Japanese silky
production, usual sambatastic workout.
27. Erik Truffaz - Revisite (Blue Note) 2xLP
Slightly missed opportunity here with this remix
project, though one of the tracks 'Less' with
instruction from Pierre Audetat slipping through
into this chart with a all almost modern day 'Teo' feel.
28. Vikter Duplaix - Manhood (Rima remix)(Groove Attack) CD-R
Domu teaming up with the Volcov to produce an excellent
twisted version of one of last years classics. Nuff said when
you team these three together. Rima ready to roll!
29. Koop - V/T (Superstudio) 10"
Nuff waltz and bossa bizniz going on here! 3 track sampler
from the forthcoming album including last years blinding
'Waltz for Koop'. Hold tight for a excellent album too.
30. Ray Mang & Pete 2 - Praia Do Londres (R&S) 12"
Nice rolling percussive rhythms Pitch it down a little
and slip gently into modes of hypnotism too! If you
enjoyed Chaser's 'Life in Loiasada' then check this.
#### #### Coffee compliment #### ####
Patrice Rushen - Before the Dawn
Prestige P-10098 (1975)
Number two in the Prestige series for Patrice. A straight out
there fusion album. All-stars including Hubert Laws, Lee Ritenour,
Harvey Mason and Ndugu. Fusion of course being a cross
between Jazz, Rock and Funk and RnB. Patrice capturing
this intensely. Title track doing the real damage to my mood
with its airy atmospheric analogues and electrics. Funk flava
in 'Whats the Story', Joise James giving a vocal ruffness. Tough
choice in choosing this album or her follow up in 'Shout it Out'.
Patrice I believe still in her teens when she recorded these albums.
