The books of John Storm Roberts (_The Latin Tinge_, _Latin Jazz_) are
really excellent, & have turned me on to much much wonderful music.

The Descarga website (http://www.descarga.com) is completely awesome
(just wish their prices were a *little* lower). Lots of interviews,
    overviews by experts/enthusiasts, discographies, value-added
    content....

The liners to the various Soul Jazz _Nu Yorica!_ compilations (1, 2 &
_Roots!_) are another excellent source of info, & the discs an are
out of this world introduction to some of the wildest
salsa/bugalu/latinsoul you're likely to hear-- a great introduction,
    I'd say--
