With great pleasure I pronounce Compost the most consistent and forward
thinking record label of continental Europe. Quietly releasing the right
and
proper pieces from a slowly building alternative club culture that has now
not only made worldwide news but is also changing the rules Stateside!
Compost is the honest and independent vision of Michael Reinboth who I
first
met when he invited me to play at his tiny residency in Munich 13 years
ago!
I was at that "lets see whatıs up in Deutschland phase" and Michael was the
first to show me there was a future in playing cool records for a living!
In the years that have passed his label has somehow not only represented
the
correct edge but most importantly has given this scene a true base enabling
DJs and artists a feeling of being part of something truly meaningful! It
hasn't been easy as there's always someone ready to put you down but after
enough time you achieve collective strength to knock the cynics off! Today
all of clublife is looking at Germany a little like the French touch a few
years back and where Daft Punk led the disco revival I feel truly excited
at
the impact Truby, Jazzanova, Kruder , the Fauna Flash crew and the whole
Compost family will have on world clubbing related music ! These guys are
bringing the Soul back! Ask Oakenfold, Carl Cox or Tenaglia and you'll see
that even the biggest djs in the world are tuned and inspired by those
Bavarian beats.

Minus 8 "Viktor Vogel - Commercial Man² in the cinema soon
Minus 8 finished the work on the music score for the film "Viktor Vogel -
Commercial Man² directed by Lars Kraume and starring Götz George, Alexander
Scheer and Chulpan Khamatova. The film will be in German cinemas on the
12th
of April 2001, starting with 500 copies. There will be two different
soundtracks available, one featuring all songs, and one featuring the
original score by Minus 8.

The Apple Commercial of the new G4 Powerbook featuring "Snowblind² by Minus
8 can now be seen on German television.
New 12² by Kyoto Jazz Massive incl. Afronaught Remixes
The Japanese Kyoto Jazz Massive come up with their second 12² on Compost.
The 4-Track E.P. will include the new track "Substream² fantastic, groovy
dancefloor business , 2 remixes of "Eclipse² by the mighty Afronaught,
member of Bugz In The Attic, and certainly one of the leftfield House
producersı of the moment (watch out for his new 12² "Transcend Me² on
Apollo) and the track "A Calmaria² from the Glücklich 4 compilation.
KJM will release a Maxi-CD on Sony Japan including the wonderful track "The
View From Her Room² feat. Bebel Gilberto.
Supersempft - debut 12² on Compost
Supersempft is a band playing all tracks live. Composer and arranger are
the
two musicians and producers Till Maragnoli and Thomas Braun from Freiburg,
Germany. In 1994 they met each other in an reggae-afro band and since 1997
they have worked together as Supersempft. On Glücklich 4 they had their
first release, and now itıs time for them to debut with their first 12" on
Compost. 4 tracks with delicious beats & vibes from the black forest.
12² by Salvador Group on Compost
After their first release "Crosswinds² on the FSOJ 7 , the two members
Florian Hartl and Julian Fischer, both natives of Bavaria, now release
their
first 12² on Compost Records. The track "The Moon Is High² is a wonderful
odyssey through uplifting beats and deep atmospheric sounds; the track
²Crag² sets the beats back and makes space for a drivinı bass line and a
magnificent groovy piano pattern. Out soon !!
The Salvador Group also made a contribution to the Compost 100 compilation
called "Moksa², another excellent track.
New Compost signing Joseph Malik
Joseph Malik from Edinburgh will release his first 12² on Compost sometime
towards the end of 2001. More info soon.
The Amalgamations Of Soundz: 12² on Compost
After their exclusive track on FSOJ 7 and another one on Compost 100,
Jean-Claude and Mark from London will release their first 12² with two
brand
new tracks ("Alone², "Ten Scroats To A Pound) on Compost this summer.
Fauna Flash the album "Fusion², forthcoming remixes
Great reviews for the album so far, as for example in the British magazine
Jockey Slut:
"Ultimately, theyıve succeeded where many others have failed, resulting in
a
varied album that in places stops you in your tracks.² (Jockey Slut 02/01)
On forthcoming 12 inches there will be remixes by Stephane Attias (Chic
Records, Laws Of Motion), Salvador Group, Tom Middleton (Cosmos / Global
Communication), Dixon (Sonar Kollektive), Dzihan & Kamien (Couch Records),
Peter Kruder (G-Stone), Stereotyp, Attica Blues and Pole (which will be
already on the CD Version of Compost 100)
Les Gammas new exclusive track
Les Gamması produced a new track called "Fez² exclusively for the upcoming
"Outpatients 2² compilation on Hospital Records.
Trüby Trio compiles & mixes new DJ Kicks CD:
The Trio is currently in the studio mixing the new DJ Kicks Mix CD for
Studio K7. The CD will be out this summer, and of course it will come with
a
new exclusive track by them called "High Jazz² feat. Joseph Malik.
Remix Business
Beanfield finished a remix for Attica Blueıs track "The Quest². Beanfieldıs
remix of Down To The Boneıs "Black Choice² (Internal Bass Records) is out
now. Salvador Group did a remix for Fauna Flash superb !! Kyoto Jazz
Massive did a remix for Chris Brann / PıTAAHıs House project Ananda
Projectı and its track "Bahia², which will be released on Nite Groove /
NYC.
Brandnew info: Trüby Trio will do a remix for Bebel Gilberto and also in
progress is a production collaboration with Bootsy Collins for one track of
his forthcoming album, which will be out on Mousse Tıs label Peppermint
Jam.
New on JCR Records:
Jazzanova Reworks From Japan, out now !!
In the beginning these remixes were aimed to be released on CD in Japan
only. Due to high demand now they will get a worldwide release on vinyl.
Calmıs remix of "Introspection² taken from Jazzanova EP2 on JCR Records is
simply wonderful.
"Coffee Talk² the exclusive track for the Future Sounds Of Jazz Vol. 4
compilation is remixed by Yukihiro Fukutomi. A stunning tune, showing
Fukutomiıs great talent in music.
"Fedimeıs Flight² taken from Jazzanova EP1 on JCR gets the jazzed-up
treatment by the Kyoto Jazz Massive. KJM are Japanıs first address when it
comes to innovative jazz-influenced music. Not to be missed !!
New Jazzanova 12²
Finally it comes... a new 12² by the terrific Jazzanova. Three completely
new tracks, a little taster of the upcoming album next year. Expect the
vinyl by June / July.
Victor Daviesı debut album on JCR
This will be a very big one. The music of Victor Davies comprises a
multi-coloured patchwork of Latin jazz, folk and heartfelt soul all gelled
together with a complete understanding of great songwriting. Victor Davies,
born in Londonıs East End, is one of the greatest talents and although he
had only few releases so far, he already received plenty of press in
magazines such as Straight No Chaser, Jockey Slut, Jazzwise. Expect his
debut album on JCR in autumn / winter 2001. More info in the next
newsletter.
Nemo on JCR
A 12² by Nemo aka Dave Cox and Bryan Robson from Middlesborough, England,
called "Darkest Day² including mixes by Worlds Of Apples and Phil Asher
(Restless Soul) will be out in summer 2001. The track "Darkest Day² was
released by Nemo themselves on a strictly-limited 7² last year, which sold
out immediately, so JCR now gives the track a proper release including some
nice remix treatments.
The Underwolves album and new remixes on JCR
You surely remember all the print adverts and previews of a brilliant album
by The Underwolves, which was supposed to come out on Island Blue Records
in
spring 2000, but it actually never did.
Surprise !! Jazzanova-Compost Records will release this album in summer
2001. Donıt worry the music wonıt sound dated by then, as their music is of
such high quality that it still sounds as fresh as ever. There will be new
remixes by Earthbound, Fauna Flash, Intega (Sonar Kollektive) and the old
remixes by Restless Soul, Peshay vs. Photek, Spacek and Juryman will be
re-released, as some of the remixes were only available on promo (for
example the wonderful Restless Soul Peaktime Mix). Expect the first 12² So
Bue Itıs Blackı incl. Heavy Manners Mix, Juryman Aberash Returns To Addis
Vox, and the Restless Soul Peaktime Mix by the end of may.
Compost Japan News
Number 2 of the Mix-CD series "Fueled For The Future² mixed by Michael
Reinboth & Dirk Rumpff including some great underrated tunes from the
Compost / JCR / Sonar Kollektive stable is in the shops now. And number 3
is
already in the pipeline, this time the great U.F.O. (United Future
Organisation) will put their hands on the Mixing-Desk.
