I really know what you mean. My worst experience in this regards was back
in 1989 or so, when Acid House was still hot and new to Mexico. There was
a short-lived radio show on one of the city's rock stations (100.9 fm)
which played an odd mix of house, acid house and hip-hop. The station also
owned a very popular and trendy (at that time) rock club close to downtown
(Rock Stock). So, the show organized a special house/hip-hop/acid-house
night at the club with the show's producers as DJs. I was very excited to
go, for it was still very rare to hear that kind of music in the city.
Since I was then a teenager, I got ready by putting on my bright colored
clothes and smiling faces. When I got there, it was easy to recognize
other acid house enthusiasts in their bright colored uniforms. Also,
because they were all to one side of the door. The guys at the door were
not letting anyone of us in, instead allowing a huge crowd of black
leather clad rockersin (A larger crowd that most nights, I noticed). After
a long while, I realized they were NEVER foing to let us in, so I left
pissed off. Later I ran into the show producer and asked him what went on.
He told me that the club organizers scheduled a live performance by a
popular rock singer (Cecilia Toussaint) THAT SAME NIGHT. She was supposed
to play half an hour or so in the middle of the night. So, all this
rockers showed up, not knowing that there was upposed to be an electronic
music night and booed the DJs off the booth. After just a few minutes
after the beginning of the night, the regular DJ had to be called in to
play the regular routine of classic rock.

I still hate Rock Stock for that . . .
