Dennis 'Badbone' Rollins, Britain's foremost funky-jazz trombone player is
poised to release his début
full-length album on his own label, Raestar Records. The 10- track
self-titled album, Badbone, pays
modern tribute to the 1970's era, is 80% comprised of his own compositions
and will be distributed in
major stores commencing May 28th by Mactwo Distribution. An album preview
performance is
scheduled for May 6th at Subtone, 117 Promenade, Cheltenham, 01242 575 925.
Doors open at 7 pm and
the show starts at 9:30 pm. Ticket prices are £3 before 9 pm and £4
afterwards.
Funky dance music with jazz overtones best describes the main thrust of
Dennis' music. (The last track is
even further testimony to Dennis' versatility and virtuosity).
Dennis has been working on this project for several years in-between touring
with The Courtney Pine
Band. "The next one definitely won't take as long," declares the former
Jazz Warrior who has also
performed and toured with some of the world's top jazz and pop personalities
and is a preferred session
player. Dennis' own band, Badbone & Co which was launched last year at the
Barbican, is gaining a
strong following and has garnered high praise from many including the likes
of John L. Walters of The
Guardian who recently wrote, "...He's a contender, more than ready for his
moment in the big league."
The Jazz Café who has invited the band back (April 27th) for a second
performance in only 4 months
praises Badbone & Co in their current brochure as, "...one of the most
entertaining and inviting new funk
combos currently burning up the UK scene."
