hey there everyone,
Three weeks later and there's soooo much new news to share! Please grab
your beverage of choice (tea for me please!) and have a look-see at
upcoming events, happy new info about 'Mental Chatter' online archiving,
writerly updates...and a ticket giveaway for tonight's gig at Roxy Blu.
As always, special thanks to all those who support the stuff that I have
on the go and to those who inspire us... the musicians, labels,
free-thinkers and conscious consumers. We're all in this together.
Special props this e-bulletin to those currently in Quebec City,
speaking out against the 'Summit of the Americas' and protesting not
only the FTAA ('Free Trade' Agreement of the Americas), but also the
fact that governments and politicians continue to exclude the people
most directly affected from asking questions and having input into
incredibly important decisions. From those of us who wanted to, but
could not go...thank-you to those of you who could and did.
Back to the other matters at hand....
RADIO:

http://ckln.sac.ryerson.ca/html/chart/logdb/pl_3.html
By request, I will resume sending detailed playlists (including guest
and Pick of the Week) info straight to your inbox. I was kinda thinking
that the lists on the CKLN web site would do the trick (how naive and
conveniently lazy of me ;-), but label and listener e-requests have
proved otherwise. Hold tight. Come soon.
Listening: Tune in to 88.1fm live if you're in the area, or check the
online streaming if you're not. http://ckln.sac.ryerson.ca 'listen
live' section.
Exciting news! I feel like I've been working on this for ages, and
finally (!) online archives of Mental Chatter are now yours to explore
and enjoy 24/7. Yippee! Now you working folks, busy bees, out of
town/country curious types, label folks, artists and all ya'll can
discover what you've been missing! :-) Here's the scoop: head to
www.beats.to and their 'Audio Archives' section where you'll find the
Mental Chatter folder. Click on the link for whatever week you want and
awwway you go. Monday April 9 is up there now, this past Monday April 16
will be up shortly, and from here on in, each Monday's program will be
up there asap, fresh like that. Let me know what'cha think if you're a
first time listener!
BTW, www.beats.to also houses excellent shows, archives and DJ mixes by
folks like Roundtable's David Cooper, Movement/Shifting Gears' Dee Jay
Nav, the site's own Hubert K, Christian Newhook, Play Records' Steve
Yanko, Coffee's Pedro Parades and many more. Enjoy!

WRITING:
In the last few weeks of Extended Play in Eye weekly, I've featured
Detroit's Recloose (April 5), UK garage producer/DJ Jazzy D (April 12),
and this week's ish highlights local turntablists Needillworks. If
you're interested in checking these pieces (or my Beats Per Week
listings section), surf on over to www.eye.net and head to The Beat
section in the issue you're looking for (all issues of Eye are archived
by date on the site).
Also, check the current (April) issue of Exclaim magazine
(www.exclaim.ca) for a piece on local producer Manitoba (Leaf Label),
and reviews of albums by Pilote ('Doitnowman' on Certificate 18), Ian
Simmonds ('Return to X' on K7), Terry Callier ('Alive' on Mr. Bongo),
and loads more from all my fellow music geeks who contribute to the
magazine. Watch for the May issue...coming soon of course!

Andrew Allsgood and I throwing down nu jazz, dub, downtempo, deep house,
d&b, beats, and soulful abstract grooves. There are a whole pile of
guests joining us throughout May and June. Here's the (brief version of
the) scoop on that. E me if you would like more info on any of the

Montreal sound environmentalist
FREEWORM (Hydrophonik, Interchill) performing a live PA
at Gypsy Co-op, 817 Queen St. West
$5 at the door
Montreal's Freeworm, aka multi-instrumentalist Vincent Letellier, is a
musical scientist, fusing electronic and organic into his own unique,
underground sound. On his Vegetation = Fuel, Freeworm combines the
contributions of live musicians and vocalists with the sounds of Quebec
nature and creative samples to create dubbed-out(door) electronics.
Didjeridu, accordion, talking drum, water samples, super-deep bass and
so much more meet readily in Vincent's world. This is his Toronto
debut.
"Hot, rhythmic, dancey, trippy, perfect." - Stereotype
