Um, ditto.
Tougher than Tough is a definate reggae must-have for the
neophyte.
My tastes for reggae (currently) tend more towards dub as
well as roots reggae and the older studio one type stuff.
Jackie Mittoo, Lee Perry, King Tubby, Black Uhuru (and
especially Black Uhuru dubs), etc. Can't say i'm as big a
fan of Dancehall, save for a few Buju Banton tracks here
and there maybe.
Also agree that pretty much anything on Blood and Fire is
the bomb. I got a hold of a Big Youth 3cd retrospective
and i've been listening to that every now and then when I
get the chance. Any of their many samplers are definately
worth checking out.
Speaking of dub, anyone else listening to Dubchek's Down
Memory Gap Lane on Unitone World recordings? I believe
they're a london duo with and ex-Brooklyn Funk Allstars
member. It's a great new-school dub album (ughh, I hate
saying new-school anything, but it somehow seems to fit).
They mix in mostly dub, with some faster drum'n'bass, all
the while cleverly referencing Oasis and Massive Attack.
Nice.
