    Cuki chart, playlists, news!
    05.08.01 Week 28

Cuki having a week off! Cricky, I even get mail from peeps
complaining that I'm late! I don't get paid for this you know!
I do it out of love for the music and the scene! Roar off wit
ya 'Where's my newsletter' bizniz and give me a week off
    now and then!

Swell Session in town last week. Well, two members
of the crew chillin' their boots at Cuki's!
One missed his flight and spent many days drinking
cranberry juice and eating outta Baker and Spice!
Anyway, let me tell you about past weekends!
Saturday night and Cuki off to borrow his Mum's car!
Would be good to have a car tonight to get these guys
around! Gonna take me about two hours to get back to
Cuki's home. Andreas and fellow Swell, Christoffer
already at home chillin' dem boots.
When I get home, Andreas is sorting out his own private
collection of 'hush hush' and a bag full of vinyl delights for
the Off-Centre night at 333 at which they are playing.
Christoffer mean while is on my PC with a set of
headphones playing around with some software!
At the party and into the set and Andreas drops this
'hush hush' CD! Halfway through the groove, we check
a sample! ''We love your boots'' comes blasting out the
system! Of course, Cuki now becomes super numbty and
loses the plot! Then it figures that these guys just made a
track while I was out fetching the car! Cuki really stoked
by this! Of course I'd like to be charting this track number
one in Cuki's top tunes but its all 'hush hush'!
These guys apart from making exceptional tracks for the
Hollow and Hospital labels are two of the most inspirational
people you will ever meet! They are also the future of our
very small and underground scene. Their music even at
this stage is composed, thoughtful and intelligent. Their DJ
sets are just as inspirational. Me and the boys bugging out
big time to what was played at Granny's last week.
I happy to know that the future of our small scene is in
good hands. I happy to know these guys full stop!
Christoffer, Andreas, you know what's coming next!
    Yeah, 'we love ya boots'
Check out http://listen.to/octagon about the crew.

Shouts to Alex, Paul and Toby. The Rocket Science crew
celebrating two years of quality mail outs! Respect and
thanks for the party at Katabatic last Friday. Shouts to
the Mantis and Atjazz mob too.

Shouts to the Cisco and Stereo Deluxe crews for enough
quality through the post box! Many thanks to Regis in
Belgium for the unobtainable LP's too.

To Felix and Noah at Earth Project. In attendance at
'Granny' last Thursday. Hold tight for the new Los
Ladrones album soon come. Earth Project showing
wisdom and thought with every release.

    #### #### This weeks chart (* New Entry) #### ####

    1*. 4 Hero - Les Fleur (Talkin Loud) 12"
I could write a page about this record, I really could!
Well, you know what be big fans we are of Dego
and Marc. You know we never miss out on a remix
or a production in any of their guises. This though is
something very very special! One of the most beautiful
tracks every composed gets the utmost respect from
these guys! If you ever wanted a Stepney production
to be reborn in the 21st century, you ask 4 Hero. I can't
help but feel that in a location high above the clouds,
    Minnie and Charles are smiling.

    2*. Jimpster - Deep Down (Kudos) CD-R
12.20am! Red car approaching Big Ben! Me and the
kid from Gothenburg! Plastic People here we come.
Shaker sound followed by conga groove! The kid from
Gothenburg, he informs the Cuki to listen out! The red
car speeds, slick gear changes, volume control on the
column on the up! Warm Rhodes, shaker still sounding
good, vocoder enters! A whisper about being 'deep
down'! Plastic People can wait, we go the long way round.
Chadwick informs us, but we already know! Red car
speeds off into the distant night! Me and the kid from
    Gothenburg. Respect to the Jimpster!

    3*. V/A - Omoa music sampler (Omoa) 12"
Recloose and buddies bring it on! New music from
Detroit, music to butterbuns and all! The twelve has
a seal that it invites you to go ahead and open! As if
I need inviting! My gruppy little hands sweating with
excitement as the needle hits the various grooves.
And this just the start. My buns well and truly buttered.
I suggest you seek and enjoy the same experience.

    4*. Ursula Rucker - Supasista (K7) CD-R
Philli poetess/goddess comes with her debut via K7
recordings. She gets to sing on here too but its the
narration with soul that we love her for the most. The
best spoken worder on the planet? Yep, I reckon.
Check out the show too at 'Cargo' on the 15th of August
at 83 Rivington street, EC2. Album drops September
    3rd. Essential.

5*. Victor Davis - Sound of the Samba (Compost) 12"
When skies are grey and troubles arrive. Escape
to the sound of the samba. I'm sure you all know
about Victors credentials! His wonderful song writing,
his beautiful and soothing musicianship, his ability to
touch ,heal, calm! His voice, his gentleness. It will be
impossible for this man to ever make a bad song.
Hold tight for a stunning album outta Haagar St too.

    6*. Jackson 5 - Get it together (4 Hero remix)(Motown) CD
4 Hero in the more of a Tek 9 guise than '9 by 9' one!
The best remix from the second part this Japanese
collection. Whatever 4 Hero touch, be it drum n bass,
hip hop, broken beat, they are the dons! I need vinyl!

    7*. Mondo Grosso - MG4R (Sony) CD
Remix album featuring Tania Maria getting two step
treatment from the Wideboys and Amel Larreriux getting
slightly more subtle treatment from the Ananda Project.
Blaze and Da Lata adding the list of top draw remixers.
    Excellent remix project!

    8*. V/A - Sonar Kollektiv 3/01 sampler (Sonar Kollektiv) CD-R
Nine tracks from the various crews that make up the Kollektiv.
Daniel's 'best seven' label, Mermaid, Recreation, No Zession.
Artists and remixes across the whole spectrum of diverse and
    interesting dance music outta Germany.

    9*. Alison David - 'Mixes' (Bitasweet) 12"
Domu mixes of one of last years secrets! As always Mr
Stanton respecting the original but adding that futuristic
feel. We particularly enjoy the tempo change. A great
    song, a great remix.

10*. Restless Soul feat Valerie Ettiene - Beautiful (People) 12"
Match made in heaven! Valerie with the 'Up', Phlash with
the 'Lift'! Quality soulful house music from the westside!

11*. Robbyn Rhodes - 'Untitled' (Stereo Deluxe) 12"
Bass to shake the furniture, keys to tingle the spine and
top of that you get this Bobby Womack sound alike!
Robbyn Rhodes aka Roberta Rodriguez outta Helsinki
with a album in the new year for Oli and the crew. Check
out the previous releases too for nine2five recordings.

    12*. Moonstar - Dupont (PIR) 2xLP
Been on a 'hush hush' for so long know that I forgot about
this! Did find a vinyl copy this weekend and back in the
box! Outta Canada and all over the place. Hi Tech jazz
    with broken beats!

    13*. Alex Kid - Beinvenida (F Com) 2xLP
We checking this album for the collaberations with Ursula
Rucker and the remix with Richard Dorfmeister. Two very
deep and moving tracks worth the price tag.

    14*. Jaguar Wright - Ain't nobody playin' (MCA) 12"
Another Philli Soulsista in the making. Ta to Tank for
the CD long time back and for this new twelve featuring
Black Thought from the Roots. Philadelphia is so 'on
    the map'!

    15*. Moodymann - Telephone Blue (Peacefrog)12"
Detroit on the map too! KDJ back at what he does best!
Looked into a groove, spaced feels and atmospherics
and the old gospel thing to kick start it all off.

    16*. Reel People - Spiritual (Opaque remix)(Papa)12"
While Seiji tears it up over in San Fran, we get to
experience another ruff and uncompromising piece
of west London technological soul music. If you
bugged out over the P'taah remix he did, then get
    ready for this

    17*. Cinematic Orchestra - Brotherhood (Comet) 12"
The Allenko Brotherhood Ensemble gets the Jason
Swinscoe treatment! We've charted as CD-R bizniz but
the vinyl deserves another push. As always, the ever
consistent Comet crew the source of such musical
    integrity.

    18*. Full Spectrum - V/A (Nova records) 2xLP
Gilb-R and I:Cube with new rubs including I:Cube's
remix of Sylk 130 Romeo's Fate which only appeared
on the Japanese version of King's great album. Quality
comp throughout but then again, Gilb-R's pedigree
    firmly established.

    19. New Sector Movements - Download This (Virgin) 3xLP
The album in the shops! All the music IG has ever listened
to comes through on this extraordinary piece of work. Album
of the year already. 12 tracks, stunning, breathtaking, Nothing
you have ever heard before sounds like this. Go buy!

    20. Pablo - High Jazz (Red Hook) 12"
Yippee! Paul Hunter goes all Sun Ra! Exactly what the title
says. High forms of jazz music! Taking from the 'Story of
sampling' EP which is very good but you need to turn off the
lights to the high jazz baby!

    21. The Beard - Someday (Phuturistix mix)(Inspirit) 12"
Straight outta High Wycombe! Probably 710 peeps on
this page not knowing where High Wycombe is! Well,
the Cuki knows cause there's a f**k off hill that he
used to ride his bike up 20 times a week! Err but
what about the music! Much more soothing than the
bike ride I glad to say! Soulful two stepper with quality
female vocal and scats. Rhodes and rhythm's a plenty
too. With the right support this could be big.

22*. Earthbound - Be Strong (Tutti Frutti) 12"
Another new label out Switzerland we think. No info on
the white but all the usual suspects from Earthbound,
Max Fresh and a little ambient gem by Nos! Cuki in
    need of more info.

    23. Stargazer 2 - Night drive (DIY Diversions) 12"
Christian Zimmerman returns! Remember the 'Diary of
a lost girl'! Well, that bloke returns with some dude
called Dino on a warm and soothing slice of fusion breaks
and beats! Cracking track, awful pressing!

    24. V/A - Out Patients Vol 2 (Hospital) 3xLP
Hospital records come with mo goodies in the new instalment
of Out Patients. All new and exclusive and featuring the cream
of today's top production teams. Jazztronik, Swell Session, Les
Gammas, Landslide etc. Even the 'Future Homosapiens'
(remember them) make a long over due visit to our ears!
11 tracks and all pushing the right buttons! In the shops too!

    25. Kaidi Tatham - Betcha (Landslide remix)(Bitasweet) 12"
Kaidi gets the two step maestro remix treatment! Tim Land
aka the Landslide, adding his touch to a west London anthem.
Two adventurous and futuristic producers on the tune!

    26. The Underwolves - 'Mixes' (Compost) 12"
Exciting twelve this, as you get the Fauna Flash 'Timbalas'
mix of 'Shaken' and Switzerland's finest, 'Earthbound' take
on a mid tempo twist of 'Bird Song'. And that's the B-side!
A-side containing 'In the picture' which featured on the last
'Off-Centre' compilation. A new vocal rub on this too.

    27. Kyoto Jazz Massive feat Bebel Gilberto - View from her room (Sony) 12"
Only released in Japan as a promo! We've charted and
supported as CD-R, I'm gonna do the same with my vinyl
copy. Think I got another copy coming too! See, its not
only 'Wesser' wit da Japanese nuggets!

    28. Butti 49 - Spiritual Rotation (?) CD-R
Not the Norwegians again! Yeah, the boys can come
anytime with licks like this. This time, my dear friend
Snorre comes with the super mellow modality. Kick ya boots
off and place them in the refrigerator! Then when totally
chilled, head of to the excellent 'Whiffenpoof' club night.

    29. Star Company - Down with this vibe (?) 12"
Gotcha! Been bugging for this for sometime and ta to Mad Mats
for the reminder! No info on the white label but one gorgeous
slice of r&b with enough grooviness to work the dance floor.
Maybe a few copies in Junkies! That's where I got mine!

30*. US Collective - Please Yo self (SI Projects) 2xLP
Bugz back in bizniz! Dirty low down funky grooviness from
Bitasuite! US Collective gonna give ya another taste of
multiply talents of the multiply employees of Bitasuite. As
    always Daz-I-Kue the knob twiddler!

    #### #### Coffee Compliment #### ####

Emil Richards - Spirit of 1976
    (Impulse AS-9182) 1969
No not a typo! This album was actually recorded live in 69.
Recorded at Donte's on the west coast with Dave Mackay,
Ray Neapolitan, Joe Porcaro and Mark Stevens. Emil Richards
of course one of the very best vibes players ever! Check those
early Paul Horn albums for confirmation. This album containing
the essential west coast feel of that period, blues, folk, slightly
camp but still very spiritual. One of the most interesting features
of Emil's work is the multi rhythms and complexities of the tracks.
This is not simple music! Impulse the deepest.
