Willy..
I wont be the cocktail hour warmup dj for vadim in dublin (altho i'd
love to come over there again). i didnt hear props back from him, but
the bar staff loved it! i also dragged out a lot of hip hop related
breaks but i was
playing on a hot night in london while people werre milling outside.
years ago i used to play to 'b&t' commercial crowds on friday nite
where i managed to develop a crowd pleasing formula of 50% what the
crowd wants to hear and 50% of what i want to play & although I never
became a B illboard
100 dj I was under pressure to play new records from record companies
who I got free tunes from. I only played what I liked & what fit
with my personality and the crowd.
After having been in dj retirement for many years, I will now only
play what I like and prefer not to be under pressure to work the
crowd - they feel like shaking out to some james brown along with me
- cool. They wanna talk boozey &
sit & schmoozy that's cool too.
Having heard Funki at Xen Cargo a few months back, I know he shares a
bit of my tude about djing versus going out and doing a live show. I
really wish I made
it to Dublin, as I've never heard Up Bustle & Out DJ. And I can
appreciate that you have a certain expectation of what someone will
be like as a DJ when you've heard their albums but FP & UB&O I think
relish in the unexpected.
Wagon Christ & Amon Tobin - that's a totally different kind of DJ set...
And DJ Vadim is different every time I've seen him - last year lotta
old breaks - this year it was all fresh outta the box.
Netbod not sending anything but lurve
