    SOUL-PATROL SETS UP LOCAL CHAPTER
For the many people who don't see how the Internet could be relevent
to their lives, one website is bridging the gap locally between
virtual and reality. Soul-Patrol.com , which has been in existence
for six years, was the brainchild of University of Pittsburgh alumnus
Bob Davis. The award-winning site provides an encyclopedic source of
information about black music and artists in all genres, and has been
used by teachers as a classroom resource. More than that, though,
Soul-Patrol hosts its own radio station at www-soul-patrol.net , as well as the Soul-Patrol
Digest, an e-newsletter that goes out daily to over 5,000 members
    worldwide.

Because of the widespread appreciation for the site and
its newsletter, Soul-Patrol local chapters have begun forming across
    the country.

The chapters host meetings and events that give users
the chance to leave behind their keyboards and meet people face to
face who share their interest in black music and culture.

Longtime Pittsburgh radio personality and WJJJ 104.7 FM morning show producer
Kevin Amos heads up the chapter here in the 'Burgh, which held its
first meeting at the Crawford Grill in early August. About 25 people
attended, and more are expected for future gatherings. "Soul-Patrol,"
says Amos, "is an exercise in empowerment from a social-historical
perspective, bringing folks together by way of music...something
which everyone likes, whether you are a housewife, activist, lawyer,
student, parent or grandparent." To find out about future Soul-Patrol
events, subscribe to the Digest or to learn more about black music
and culture, log onto www.soul-patrol.com . // JAIME MCLEOD
