Remember "Broken-step" was kinda my little Simon Reynolds-ish joke with
all these nu- genres popping up, everyday. I wanted to see how far it
would get. When I play I don't tell people it's called broken-step. I
usually tell people its a mix of deep house, broken beat, and 2-step in
my set. That's all!!!!
I thought it was funny, when I read stories of GIlles calling his early
music "acid jazz", like Elson said. "Broken-step" is used as a tongue in
cheek name lke nu-step. :P
