Good news: our transmitter was made operable over the weekend, thanks
to our chief engineer and a loan from the university....despite being
at 1/60th power for the past few weeks, donations have been steadily
coming in and the SF Chronicle wrote a nice piece for Sunday's paper
that should be a big help with the cash flow....you can read it here:
fund-raiser should begin soon and with any luck, we'll have enough to
support a new transmitter that's not held together with duct tape and
tin foil....
Plenty of good music this week as well, with new 12"s from Briskey, a
Tim "Love" Lee edit of Ray Barretto's "Soul Drummer" and while not
that new, a fantastic single from the Gotan Project that is
reminiscent of the late Astor Piazolla (if he had been making dance
records)....new compilations include "Hidden Rooms Vol 3" mixed by
Doc Scott for Certificate 18, the latest entry in the DJ Kicks
series, this time commandeered by the Truby Trio, "Drum Major
Instinct" from Attica Blues, some raw hip-hop from "The Funky
Precedent Vol. 2" and Ubiquity's "Love From The Sun," mixed by Andrew
Jervis.....groovy electronica from Germany's Sieg Uber Die Sonne,
selections from the newly remastered ON-U Sound catalog and the new
Ursula Rucker album will also be in full effect......we'll have
tickets for the Nortec Collective appearing Thursday at Joypad and
for Khan w/Julie Cruise at the Great American Music Hall......check
it!
Ciao for now,
David
