It occurred to me yesterday as I was playing Megashira's At Last at home, that
this 3-month-old or so record didn't get a whole lot of mention on here, so let
me do the honors. This single lp full length is way heavy on the jazz, in the
same family as Eric Truffaz's dnb stuff, but more laid back. Live drums, lovely
vibe playing, a range of tempos from down- to somewhere-close-to-house to slow
and regular dnb speeds. Anyone looking for professinal grade, chill, but tight
jazz with an electronic music vocabulary, might want to check this one out. If
you liked "Bending New Corners", definitely give it a listen. Read somewhere
that Mark de Clive-Lowe did some production.

while I'm here, may as well mention the latest in an unrelenting stream of
incredible new music: we have the Home Cookin comp, 2 Kirk DiGiorgios, Ian
O'Brien, Los Lodrones, 4 hero (!!!! although I could lose "Les Fleur", sounds
like Godspell yick, and I just can't get into ursula rucker, though the
goddesses may strike me deaf dumb and blind blah blah blah milk and honey
technology bad whatever), I am still tripping on Afronaught and New Sector
Movements, and the list goes on, but I have a new favorite song courtesy of
Domu. This record is phenomenal. all the bleeps and squelches you expect from
our broken boy wunderboy with too-many-milligrams of soul right in the vein.
"Sail Away With Me" is soooo sooo pretty. it is the younger sibling of "That
Night" by vikter duplaix/jazzanova, or Ne Grove - "Let It Ride". Fans of that
vein of soul should dig it. I know you're broke, but go get it b/c this record
will keep you warm at night, which should cut your heating bill in half.

One more item for all in Philly, we (argo and I) have made a bold attempt to
start a bona-fide broken beat/nu jazz/shiki night. The next iteration is Dec
12, a Wednesday at Aqua Lounge on Girard. the night is called "Broke and Beat"
and we are incorporating live musicians, (a drummer or 2 this time around) and
rotating guests. This month's guest is international jet-setter Ivan Ross. I
think an announcement will probably go to the list closer to the date but I
figured I'd give it a mention. more info at http://www.beleza-music.org, where
you can also find charts, mixes, pictures, and scene-oriented
news gleaned from lots of magazines and newsletters.
