    hey D,

Broken beat is no one thing in that it encompasses and can take the form
of house, d&b, soul, jazz etc. The unifying thing that kinda makes this
a (broad) genre is that it's innovative, looking at music of the past to
make forward sounding grooves, and tends to have syncopated/broken
beats. The 4 Hero album, for eg., isn't really a 'broken beat' release
but a coupla tracks have the sound. Ditto the Beatless album. The thing
I find is that the music almost always is SOULFUL, from the above
mentioned to Domu's more techno-ey stuff, Vikter D etc.

I wrote a lengthy article on the topic recently, interviewing and
covering people like Dego, IG Culture, Alex Attias, Moonstarr, Bugz in
the Attic etc. Have a read if you care to:

BTW, big thank-you's to all of you on this list who hit me with feedback
on the piece. I received (and am still getting) e-notes and letters from
all over the world....lots of response and thoughts and passion. Still
    trying to write everyone back.

Oh yeah, De Angela....one other unifying factor with bb: passion!!

Thanks also for the Outkast tip-off. Sounds wicked! Will definitely
    check. Take care.
