supporting). Much of the gig info is specific to Toronto where we've got
some fantastic scenes going on, but lots of what can be found below is
of more global interest, with links galore.

I also write regularly for nationally distributed and adored monthly,
Exclaim magazine (http://www.exclaim.ca). Easy to search for reviews!
Here's what's gone down thatta way of late:
ï NOVEMBER ish
I wrote a lengthy piece called 'Broken Beats of the Underground,'
focusing on some of the broken beat sounds coming out of West London and
well beyond. Some of the people included are Dego of 4hero, I.G.
Culture, Alex Attias, Bugz in the Attic and T.O.'s own Moonstarr. Check
it here: http://www.exclaim.ca/common/display.php3?articleid=877
ï DECEMBER ish (on streets now or www.exclaim.ca):
It's the year in review issue, with lots of Top 10 lists in various
musical categories plus tons of thoughts on concert highlights,
disappointments, surprises, people to watch for etc. A good one!
Plus I penned reviews of Play Records' excellent new comp of sweet,
deep, funky and tech house sounds Floorplay Vol. 2: Household Names, as
well as of the Bip-Hop Generation V. 3 collection on Bip-Hop, featuring
new original pieces by Neotropic and other abstract beat-heads.

tomorrow!! Wednesday December 5:
with special guest
Nickodemus (NYC, Giant Step, Turntables on the Hudson)
9pm - 3am ï $8 at the door
I'm totally hyped about this one as Nick is someone who I've admired and
appreciated for some time! Here's a brief bio:
Nickodemus is a renaissance man who looks to the past to create earthy,
forward-looking grooves. As a DJ, he was resident at Giant Step NYC for
four years, and currently plays regularly in Vienna, Puerto Rico, and as
the decks ën effects manipulator in jazz percussionist Mino Cineluís
four-piece fusion ensemble.
Nick also runs ëtings, with partner Mariano, at Turntables On the
Hudson, hugely popular pier parties that have spawned a series of
compilation CDís for their own RhythmLove Records. Turntables on the
Hudson 3 is a stunning collection of original dub, beats, Latin + global
grooves, dancefloor jazz and more. Essential, as is Nickodemusí
production work with Osiris, including their saxy, Afro-Latin
underground dancefloor smash "Free Souls" and remix of the Latin
Projectís "En Fuego" (both on Giant Step). His Toronto debut is not to
be missed! www.turntablesonthehudson.com www.rhythmlove.com
The first two people who write me back and tell me where the Turntables
on the Hudson parties have happened over the past three summers will win
a pair of tickets. I'll e you back if you're one of them!
in other club + music news....
The return of Chicks Dig It! Those of you who have been mourning the
loss of Chicks Dig It, T.O.'s long-running weekly that highlights the
talents of loads of women DJ's will be happy to know of its return.
After a wee bit of a post-We'ave, post-Beat Junkie hiatus, the night is
coming back strong in a brand new home: Temple, 469 King St West of
Spadina, just down the alley.
The preview date (also a big birthday celebration for many people) is
Monday December 17, where something like 13 of us will be DJ'ing. Chicks
Dig It then returns to its Monday eve format as of January 7, running
weekly from then.
I'll pass along full DJ lineup and other key details next e-bulletin.
Plus...the folks behind the fantastic, diverse and conscious OM Festival
have set their date for this coming summer: June 21-23, 2002. Think of
summer and it shall come, and OM is a great reason to look forward to
it. For info on the Festival itself, check www.omfestival.ca
If you're interested in more info and especially if interested in
volunteering for the Fest, contact Steve Richman at zumba123@yahoo.com
And I think that about wraps it up for this one. Thanks for staying
tuned! Hope the info was interesting to you.
As always, this is being sent out for the love, not to annoy or infringe
on your time and space. If you would prefer not to be on this mailing
list, just lemme know and off your name shall go! Thanks.
Take good care.
