From my standpoint production quality is paramount. I know in the past
there have been movements of backlash against highly produced efforts and I
can not ever recall myself saying that this or that is too overly produced.
Steve Lukather a really great guitarist calls it "grease" in reference to
effects. Tasteful is important but hell I really do not care to listen to
garage band fodder. Jimmy Page is one of the sloppiest live players I have
ever seen or heard but he's a master in the studio.
I just finished listening to Saru's CD5 that he sent to me and this one is
so friggin slick and so in the pocket!!! Damn it if I had stuff to put out
it would be as produced as slick as I could get it but I would try with all
my might to make sure that production translated to a live environment. To
me that is where Jimmy Page faltered, his studio wizardry did not translate
well live.
