As some of you already know, Live365 was down for the better part of
last week, due to problems with their ISP. Issues have apparently
been resolved and all streams are back on-air. However, this meant
that those of you who regularly listen to FreeFall via the Web were
unable to hear last week's show, so I've put three streams up as of
tonight, each containing a different program. Links are below,
following the playlist.
I'm looking forward to seeing Zero 7 this Thursday evening - one of
only three U.S. dates scheduled, so we'll be playing tracks from both
"Simple Things" and the remix singles. We'll also have tickets and
12"s to give away, so be sure to tune in if you're in the Bay Area.
Thanks to all the folks at PalmPictures/Quango for making it happen.
New music this week:
Local soul/jazz diva Ledisi has just released her second album
entitled "Feeling Orange, But Sometimes Blue," and it's a brilliant
showcase for her sultry vocals (the lady can scat!) and her band,
Anibade. She's been my favorite local musician for some time now and
it's only a matter of time before the right label gets wise and snaps
her up. Giles, are you listening? Numbers' "Safety In Numbers" is yet
another excellent album that has really defined the broken beat sound
of West London this year. Demus from Two Banks of Four is the man
behind this project and his work ranks up there with the best of
them. Kinobe's "VerseBridgeChorus?" is a bit of a letdown, but maybe
my expectations were too high. Their sophomore CD finds them treading
on turf that's more traditional from a pop music perspective, while I
was hoping for more lush soundtracks a la "Soundphiles." Still,
there's a few choice tunes and we'll dig 'em out for ya....
"Utopian Dream" from Jimi Tenor contains some of the strangest lyrics
I've heard all year. Check this: '..Show me an armpit that's hairy
and stinkin' of sweat / Do me a favour, don't cover it in a
flowerbed..' Add to that a song that could be a dead ringer for Ian
Curtis performing a vaudeville number and you've got one seriously
wacky (but cool) recording. We'll also touch upon "Fjorden" from
Germany's Barbara Morgenstern, helped out here by Thomas Fehlmann,
Pole and To Rococo Rot. There's also the awesome three-disc "Jazz In
The House" compilation and new singles from Fragment Orchestra and
Royksopp.
That's it for this week - ciao for now!
David
