What up all!
Yup, the women behind 'Best Kept Secret' have absolutely no
complaints about the San Franscisco-style winter going on here in the
fine city of Toronto, home of much city council drama going on right
now (ummm, ya, can we say CRONY-ISM? Please do, cause i feel like I
invented a new word) and some of the best events that continually
please the ear, work that ass, and uplift the soul. And it's only
going to get better, cause the much-anticipated return of Chicksdigit
is ready to bring much ear-pleasing, booty-shakin, and
soul-upliftment to the Toronto masses once again!
It's about to get even hotter this year...
###TONIGHT###(cause it's all about numbers, baby)
'Best Kept Secret' brings to you the CHICKSDIGIT SPECTACULAR to
celebrate the return of one of the most innovative nights that
Toronto's ever seen: music that trips all over the map, people that
show love for good beats, and some of the finest selectahs with the
double X chromosomes this city has to offer. Strictly about the
vibes, people, and the vibes are tight.
Bringin the vibes for this special edition of the 'Best Kept Secret'
tonight alongside Venus (Dalia's held hostage at work again) are the
ones DJ FREEDOM and LEE LEE MISHI.
FREEDOM has a bio the length of my arm: one of the top drum'n'bass
selectahs for years running in Toronto, co-founder of Chicksdigit
alongside DJ Chocolate, producer. She released the 'Metro Breaks -
The Nxt Level' (Nice+Smooth) back in 2000 with unreleased dub plates
from artists she encountered on her tours across the US, Canada, and
Europe. She wrecked shop in Dallas for a while, and has now returned
home to keep pushing it forward. Check for her single 'Pine Angel'
and future productions from one of the sickest d'n'b DJs (female,
male, or unisex) you'll ever hear. Check for her at her current Thurs
night residency at the Rivoli (Queen St.) and at various special
events around town and at http://www.metrobreaks.com.
LEE LEE MISHI is one of the organizers behind the OM Summer Solstice
Festival that touches down every June in stunning locations outside
of the city. Featuring tons of talented artists, djs, community
organizations, and artist collectives, OM has become one of the
premier events that people mark off on the calandar months in
advance. I became the biggest OM convert this summer, when I
attended for the first time, and holy shit, REACH NEXT JUNE!!! Also a
member of the SumKidz collective, this girl wrecks the decks with
selections of dubby deep jazzy house, and has played at various
events around town at I.V. Lounge (Decompression), the Blue Moon,
among others. If you see her on a bill, definitely check her because
it's always a good time! Check for more-inf-OM (what up Aspa!) at
http://www.omfestival.ca .
Make sure to check the pre-opening bash for Chicksdigit this Monday
(December 17) at TEMPLE BAR (between 467 and 469 King St. w of
Bathurst, down the alleyway and behind the silver doors). The crew
returns with some additions to bring you nuff niceness all night
long. Controlling the sounds will be DJs Chocolate, Freedom, Denise
Benson, Wasabi, Sara Scruton, Lee Lee Mishi, Onastic, AMtrak, Miss
KLC, Trish, Syren, Katikata, Zuzana Grimm, Sabrina, and the 'Best
Kept Secret' gyals Dalia and Venus. Get me a glass of
water...whaaat! Should be tres dope...PWYC or $5 suggested admish at
the door, and drink specials! Get on the good foot for the holidays!
