A lovely album of jazz vocal tracks from Japanese singer Akiko --
handled in a relatively straight vein, done with a good modern
traditionalist groove! The tracks are nearly all standards sung in
English -- and Akiko gets some strong small combo backing on piano,
bass, drums, and tenor, plus some occasional Fender Rhodes. Although
most of these songs are familiar numbers, they're done here with a nice
little bounce that makes them sound fresher than you might think --
almost in a modern soul jazz mode -- and the album also features a great
original called "Rim Shot -- On & On", which has a smooth stepping
groove that's very very nice! Titles include "Crazy He Calls me", "Night
& Day", "Don't Cha Go Away Mad", "Love Is Here To Stay", "Fly Me To The
Moon", and "Girl Talk".
