I sent out a longer reply to this post just after it came up, but guess it
didn't go through. All the artists I wanted to recommend have been
recommended. But I want to emphasize Stanley Clarke, Jimi Hendrix, and
Donny Hathaway. Also, there was a lot of good music form the blaxploitation
era... it can't be lumped all into a category about pimps and hoes... (see
Curtis Mayfield, War). Plus, being a Black American... I was always taught
the Black History Month is about Black Americans and the civil rights
struggle in the United States. Maybe someone from another country can
input... do they celebrate Black History month in Europe for example? or
anywhere else in the world?
Peace,
Beau
P.S. Every month should be Black History month!!!
