you should also look into african and samba dance
classes. these aren't necessarily "jazz dance"
oriented, but they could definitely help you get the
funk and soul in your step.
i've been taking afro-latin and straight-up african
classes for a while now and i really think some of the
moves have helped translate into funky steps on the
dancefloor in clubs. the african gives you rhythm (in
your feet) and the latin gives you the soul (in your
hips). if there's such a thing as samba clubs in your
town, i'd check those out too. let me tell you, the
brazilians have given me great ideas. watching and
learning from them has been truly inspirational. i've
never been able to shake my ass as well as i can now!
i also recommend just going out a lot. once you loose
yourself in the music, you won't care what others
think and you'll find your own style and rhythm. as
soon as you know it, people will be watching and
copying your new crazy moves!
