The Modaji album looks to be coming out in early March, the Nathan Haines
should be out in the next couple of weeks. Both are very nice and actually
sound a bit similiar. The production on the Nathan Haines is real standard
Restless Soul sounding (which is a good thing in 9/10 instances). There's
one cut with a weird noise running through it--sounds like a windows 98
error bleep to me that I could live without.

My feeling is the Modaji album is going for a bigger audience, which it may
or may not find. The Nathan Haines is more housey, whereas the Modaji has
several cuts that are straight up soul/r&b..(nu_soul/nu_r&b anyone?) There's
definitely a movement by more producers to go after the kind of r&b/soul
sounds of the Hefner album or Neon Phusion. My two fave cuts on the Modaji
album are Shockas Joint (a moody jazz instrumental) and Outside From The
Inside (a 8 min long vocal cut).

Basically if you liked (not loved, but at least liked) the single One And
The Same you'll LOVE (not like, love) the album. If you didn't like One And
The Same I think you'll HATE the album (though you might dig a track or
two). Since I liked the single I'm way into the album...

On a completely unrelated note, if anyone out there works for a company with
some big marketing money to spend we are currently looking for sponsors for
the next free Groove Dis CD Sampler (1.03 for those of you who are
counting), to be released at Winter Music Conference in conjunction with
XLR8R magazine. Help expose 5,000 more people to this music.

So when's that Modaji getting released, anyway? Can't wait to get my hands
    on that...

How does the Nathan Haines LP compare to yr typical Phil Asher production?
I dig the 12", but am curious as to how the rest of the album holds up.

    Cheers
    Phil
