Keyser & Shuriken - newsletter #47: Ill-ass breaks and ill piece of asses
Newsflash 19.02.2001
Dear friends,
We are growing old at an extreme speed even Einstein didn't dream about, and with the
coming of age we are also having troubles keeping the newsletters coming every week.
Anyway, we promise that we keep writing this nonsenses till we have the power to
press the buttons of the keyboard.
This weekend might help us to gain back some energy in the middle of this crazy
winter as a lot of our friends will visit Budapest to spin together with us on the
first jazz centric special editon of the incredible Cinetrip events (www.cinetrip.hu)
called Jazz Trippin' in the historical Rudas Bath. Laki, the promoter of the event
has brought together true selectors of our region for the first time: Italian
cinematic bossa maestro Nicola Conte; the men from Zagreb Eddy & Dus (internationally
known for their splendid Kontrapunkt clubnights & festival and lately their Archie
Shepp remixes for the Mo Smog label) and fanatic vinyl collector of Les Gammas fame
Tom Wieland (check out Playground vol.2., the incredible mix album of Tom Wieland and
Marc Frank out on the Viennese Ecco chamber label now). We also have to mention
Hungarian all-around wunderkind Yonderboi (having a massive list of fans starting
with names like Gilles Peterson and Peter Kruder) and we also play on this fabulous
Saturday night.
Big shouts to Nat Rahav (RhythmLove Records of NYC) for hitting us with the new
Nickodemus 12" along with a pack of dusty goodies from the flea markets of the big
apple. He is a true gentleman of taste, style and love.
We also keep on shouting for the man with thousand faces nu jazz/rare grooves/music
bizz/London fusion buzz and lately prog rock genius Alan Brown (maybe only a bad
joke, maybe true surprise - here's the clue:
http://www.turntablelab.com/features/record_check/issue24-signify/rc24.html) and his
girl Cukibaba who has passed her exams with flying colours.
Shuriken has finally completed rebuilding his record-shelves that collapsed under the
weight of vinyl just before Christmas. Now that he finally can walk around his room
again without having to tramp on record sleeves he has just realised that during
these two month he bought and got so many new things that he has to buy a new shelf
again. This week's reading goes out to the hard core vinyl junkies so that they'll
know: they are not alone with their addiction.
"YOU KNEW IT WAS COMING... ILL-ASS BREAK OR ILL PIECE OF ASS?
C'mon man. You know the ill-ass break will always be # 1. I don't care if Tyra Banks,
Carmen Elektra & Salma Hayek were laying naked on my bed ready for the triple play,
I'd hit the crates. (Yeah, I don't know about that one... you're a better man than
me! - SM)
This is a total sickness man, right up there with OCD & Compulsive Over Eating (both
of which I think I got too). I am a record glutton, I can't walk by a vinyl section &
not browse, I have to buy every week or I get really agitated."
It's Soulman interviewing fellow crate digga Azmatik. Read the whole piece at

Ill enough...
