I assume you mean it's getting worse from year to year...
I'd argue it was never really that good to begin with. Can
you actually remember a time when you enjoyed watching the
show and agreed with the winners/nominees? I think I was
still a pre-teen, and I just didn't know any better - like
the fans of Spears and Aguilera today. While it's nice to
see recognition for good artists/albums (Macy Gray,
Radiohead's Kid A), most of the other winners should be
ashamed (some are - I think Bono of U2 was heard mentioning
that their grammy for song of the year should've gone to
Stephanie Bentley) and some of the oversights are criminal.
I mean Dr. Dre's a great producer, but the fact that
Eminem can beat out Common or De La Soul (I admit "Art
Official.." isn't their best work, but come on...) drives
me insane. What about the fact that Destiny's Child can
beat out Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and D'Angelo!! I'm also
pretty pissed that Walter Ostanek (the King of Polka, also
happens to be from St-Catherines, ON) hasn't won a grammy
in two years... Well, not really that PO'd.
I long ago learned not to expect anything from this trashy
marketing ploy parading as an awards show. Phew, sorry
'bout the rant, I just needed to get that off my chest.
