Just stumbled across these two records. I'm sure Dzihan & Kamien is
familiar to most, but does anyone know anything about Cortiz? WOuld
like to know where this guy is coming from...
Anyway, Dzihan & Kamien really impressed me. The versatility is
mind-boggling... I think a review I read put it well, "Think D*Note,
Tito Puente and St. Etienne in the same studio as Peter Kruder."
Anyway, if you are not familiar with these guys, check them out.
Cortiz, then... His worst stuff reminds me of the bland music Cafe Del
Mar DJ Jose Padilla seems to like -- relatively unexpressive and low
key -- but most of the tunes have enough of detail and progression to
remind me of Kruder & Dorfmeister, Fila Brazillia, and the the faster
tracks compare to Ballistic Brothers and Boozy & Swain's track I was
talking about a day or two ago... Especially the faster stuff on his
LP (It is mellow, though!) deserves a listen. If someone has a listen
of the tune "Real Nice", let me know where I can find more!
Definitely on my playlist, both of these.
