I wasn't trying to trace the history of the genre, just illustrate that
jungle/dnb connection is perhaps strongest with jamaican dub.dn'b is just so
much a conglomeration of so many different genres...I think its done my
brain damage in the past trying to make flow charts , etc.

I have no proof, but it seems logical that, to move away from the racially
charged term jungle, junglists came up with the term from dub raggae.
Artists like Grooverider & LTJ bukem got their start spinning funk, soul and
roots reggae so it just seems likely that this how the term was applied to
the new hardcore jungle sound...though Grooverider claims that dnb is just
funk with new technology...down, dirty and funky.

I'm sure the term had been used before King Tubby's time, but it seems as
though dub reggae was the first music to really strip it down and have the
drums and the bass as the *focus* rather than just the rhythm backing. The
conceptual innovation of dub, turning the studio engineer into the driving
creative force of the music, is essential to the development of dnb.

As far as dead and buried goes...if you've never liked hardcore (in any kind
of music) you probably won't care for the tuffer dnb. There are of course a
lot of mediocre dnb tunes out there, just like there are a lot of mediocre
house, downtempo, trance, etc...music period! Don't knock it until you've
heard it in front a proper stack of speakers, dnb is truly music for the
    speakers.

For those looking for jazz flavored drum and bass, I would recommend...

the new Fauna Flash-Fusion-on Compost has several dope cuts...
London Eletricity's-Pull the Plug-Hospital (Dope! Superdope! everyone must
have this! They make Roni Size look like insync!)
    Various Peshay records..

more to come I've gto to go now
